I was under the assumption that the Key you use determines which version of Windows installed. Since the beta keys were all for the Ultimate edition how can you install other versions if you don't have a Key for them? Or does this not matter because it's a beta Op system? I'am using Vlite disk of 7000 upgraded to 7048 and now moving to 7057.

I think that you can still use all the other versions, but they will only be good for 30 days.

Have you tried WU to see if you can get updates? The trouble people were having was with hacked versions and not being able to use WU, especially the "testing text" hack; and no, I'm not asking you if yours has been hacked up, just if you've tried WU before activation to see if it works for you. It does seem that with one of the earlier builds that I couldn't get to activate, I could get updates.

But you can activate them, just not using a 7000 key, and updates work just fine.. maybe i would install and activate professional because i have no tv card and never once use media center

Only 30 days? The 64bit 7000 Ultimate was installed here in early February and still boots up without any "you now only have..." this number of days to activate Windows.

In fact the download for that was finished before the 32bit 7. Once the retail/OEM producst are finally out I wouldn't expect that to be seen however since everything now is still in beta to RC form.

You wouldn't seeing basic going on anything much less cpu wise while you might be able to squeeze it on when less memory was seen simply from having fewer processes to start with being the stripped down edition. Yet someone recently stuck Windows 3.1 on a Nokia N95 cell phone so anything is possible.

This trick WON'T extend the final windows expiry date.

This is easy to check -- back up your system first.

1) DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET ( and stay disconnected to avoid any Servers / internet date / calendars from checking the date.

2) set the BIOS (not system date -- must be the BIOS date) to say 3 days before the expiry date.

3) do the slmgr -rearm.

4) re-boot again -- setting the BIOS date AFTER the windows expiry date.

5) you'll now see the product cannot be activated . Features will start running in Reduced functionality mode as well.

Don't forget to re-set your BIOS date back to current date after you've finished

You still have to see it activated? while the 64bit 7000 here has been sitting idle until getting online there long past 30days at this point. But it's still a beta not final product.

I never said it would extend the expiration date? Just open up all versions as an option on install.

The proffesional, home basic etc (if you know how to activate them, i guess i am not allowed to explain here) they will last till exactly the same date as ultimate.

It's interesting to see just how large the file is that you need to omit from the new iso image? Instead you end up seeing a slight larger image since the original compression is lost to some degree.
