Hi guys
just to go Mad I've got virtual Machines running EVERY (REAL) version of windows from 3.1 unti the latest Windows 7, including duds like Windows Millenium.
Windows 3.0 was the first "Real" version of Windows (there were a few half baked efforts like Windows/286 which never worked.
The best BY far were Windows 3.11 (Windows for Workgroups)
Windows 95
Windows 2000 (probably STILL the best for the time)
Windows 2003 server (although a dog to get this to run sensibly as a workstation -- if you did it manage it --stable as a rock
Windows 2008 server (also looks Very good indeed but haven't tested this out sufficiently.
The real Dogs were -- Windows Millenium (a real piece of dog poo) , the early build of Windows 98 -- this was Microsofts first effort at getting away from using Ms-Dos as the underlying OS and to build Windows from the ground up and the absolutely DREADFUL both from a maintenance and a user point of view - Windows NT -- even to get the simplest app to work on this took armies of IT support staff -- why on earth corporations loved this server when much better Linux systems were around I will never know.
The only OS I'm missing is Windows 3.0 -- I'm not actually doing anything with them -- I suppose I'm just collecting Windows releases like people collect Stamps or Coins.
"You don't have to be Mad to Post here -- but it helps".
Cheers
