Your processor and your RAM are a little weak...

I would upgrade the processor to a Core2DUO offering and bump the RAM to at least 2GB

I took your advice and upgrade the processor it cost me an extra 60, the price is what newegg says it the grand total but that has changed since i changed the processor.. Also this is not a complete build YET the following month, I will be getting a second dvd burner and another 1GB of ram, plus a media card reader (internal) a logitech game controller, a second hard drive for internal which will be 500 GB, a linksys wireless card (will use gigabyte ethernet, yes my router does support it lol) also getting a 8GB usb stick from SanDisk and a 26" flat panel LCD tv w/ HDMI which I will be wall mounting

That was quite an upgrade...if you can afford it I would even say to just go up to the E8500...that processor has recieved numerous rewards and is a great performer in light of quard cores and the i7 series

I cant for afford that processor right now but yeah that would be even more processing power lol.. I think the processor I upgraded to will be just fine for my computer use lol... Plus I will have 3GB of ram so that should surely get me going pretty good

Are you locked in to building your own?

At low price levels, it is increasingly difficult to beat someone like Dell for a reasonable combination of power and decent parts.

Disregard this post if you are definitely going to build as a hobby, to learn, curiosity, whatever. I can understand that and build my own.

But I'm not sure it can be justified on a bang for the buck basis on a $500 PC.

Then that is perfectly fine...

Let me say this though...if you upgrade in the future...I wouldn't go for the E8500 and just skip over to a higher quad core or a core i5/7. This will also require a motherboard change (depends), PSU, and RAM (depends)

I tend to be a major upgrade guy so thats my suggestion

I NEVER buy from a manufacture, I have always built my own systems, it's been a hobby of mine since i was little, my uncle got me into computer when I was young and hhrough me builds them also and I learned from him and through my own research, it's a hobby but since I don't work due to being disabled, it gives me something to do and something I can be proud of, plus the last comp I built I sold to my parents for way cheaper than what I paid to build it which was 430 and I sold it to them for 100 but I dont mind since the comp they had was very very old and slow and now they are happy...

Only thing that stands out to me that hasn't been suggested is the power supply .. you should go with something that has more power (650-800 watts). you might not need it now, but maybe a pair of high end graphics cards in the future...

I would disagree that a 650-800 watt power supply would be advantageous. Based on his specs thus far, a 300 watt PSU would cut it. I'm running a quad core box with 2 drives, a 9800GTX+, with 4 sticks of ram, 3x120mm case fans, and I didn't even need 400 watts for this...and I chose a 620 Corsair HX to ensure that I had plenty. People seem to be obsessed with going with PSU's which are far too large for their needs. I can understand trying to buy a bit of upgradability...but still.

I always go with a PSU that has at least double the output I expect to use, partially for the possibility of future upgrades but also because a PSU that doesn't have to work very hard is going to last a lot longer and produce less heat than one that is operating at a much higher percentage of its capacity.
