Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW290J laptop with built in bluetooth (Broadcom Widcomm, Alps, something like that, some drivers had the former name, others the last one). I use Windows 7 x64 Professional and it seems that the bluetooth doesn't work. After the fresh install (few months ago) it worked. Meanwhile, I didn't use it because I didn't need it. But today I tried to use it but it can't find my device (mobile phone). I tried with many device, but it seems that the bluetooth doesn't scan for devices. I can't also see it from other device (my phone doesn't see it). I tried three driver versions but none of them does anything more than what I have described above. The install does all good, but after that, nothing work. I see the BT icon in tray, near the volume icon, but if I click on it, it appears an empty page scanning for new device forever. Neither adding a device, nor opening the settings worked. The "Allow new device to connect" is blurred gray, so I can't click it. If I uninstall the driver, Windows uses its own driver, but this does also not work.
I think it's not a driver problem, but a Windows one, since it worked some time ago. I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.

I can click "Add device" and a new window pops up saying that it's scanning for device, but no device can be found (tried with two phones). The menu look like the photo above, except that I don't have the "Turn adapter off" menu.

And your sure they're both discoverable? After installing the drivers, does it ask you to log out and back in again?

I know how bluetooth works. Of course both phones were discoverable. I have Ubuntu in VMWare (in this Windows) and there the BT works well, but not in Windows. The driver says nothing after install, but after uninstall, it ask me to restart the PC.

You can help yourself then eh.

The best solution I know is formating the C: partition... and then reinstall Windows...

P.S. Sometimes, with some drivers, the "Turn off adapter" button it's there. That button does the disable features from device manager, so after pressing that, I have to go to Device Manager to enable it, since the icon disappears from tray.
