Tearing my hair out over this one. I upgraded my Dual Opteron system from XP to Win 7 Home Basic. I have just added the XFX Radeon HD4650 graphics card (AGP). I Installed the drivers from ATI and the card shows up in the Device Manager. Problem is this: Whenever i start the machine normally, i can work for about 2 or 3 minutes, then the display locks up. Fully locks, no way to restart other than shut the system off. When I restart in safe mode everything works just fine. The device manager still has the drivers loaded and the system works fine (other than i am in safe mode and other things don't work). I have taken the card out and tried a different card in the PCI graphics slot, and that works no problem but i don't have that slot available, i really need an AGP card. I have also disabled all the things that run in msconfig on startup, but that didn't help. I also tried removing all the other add-in cards in the machine and that didn't help. Ideas?

The answer is yes, they also seem to be the same Catalyst drivers i got at ATI.

Have you tried it in the other machine?

Sorry i don't have another machine. i do have a little more information however, i did a re-install of Win 7 and then started from scratch. Turns out that when i install the drivers from XFX it installs the Catalyst software but not the specific driver for my card. When i go to update the video driver and browse to the ATI directory it installed, it has at least 5 different versions of the 4650. I have no idea which one is the correct one. i installed the first one on the list, and of course, had the same lockup problem again. Obviously i am installing the incorrect driver, but i have no clue which is the correct one for my board. the list doesn't differentiate them at all by name, they all say Radeon 4650.

It should be on the box you bought it with, you use the code inside also to register your card with XFX and they automatically give you the driver.
Have you tried loading them from the CD?

Or is it pre installed on a pre built machine?
If so go to the manufactors website for the driver:)
