Microsoft has been tracking some odd issues that occur on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. These bugs are not typically fixed via Windows Update, because these hotfixes should only be applied to systems that are experiencing specific problems. So if you are not severely affected by either of them, wait for the relevant service packs. Here are the four most prominent issues, listed in order of decreasing severity.

Thanks for this! I think I may be having the BSOD issue because I left my computer on for a few days and then when I went to hibernate it, I noticed it stayed on for longer than usual, but I just left it, and it eventually turned off. Then the next day, it tells me I got a BSOD. Hopefully the hotfix they provided will fix it. I didn't actually see the error message that was brought up because I shut off my monitor while waiting for the computer to hibernate, but I'm 90% sure I'm having this problem.

Well It might be. It sounds a little like what happened to me, but I don't use the hibernate feature

All those are quite confusing.

I have install only the second bug one described in KB958685...just as i'm a home premium laptop based.

Most of those hotfix looks are reserved for professional, server Os.

I think manies of you won't have to download those hotfix and will watch at there drivers instead. or not?

I'm glad they are aware of these issues and should correct them with SP1.

Maybe they will fix TDR errors affecting Nvidia and ATI cards

Hmm...makes me wonder now if the BSODs I have been getting are due to this issue #1. Never got them until I had left my comp on for a week straight. Might as well download and install.

It seems weird to me that they password protect the zip file it comes in. Can never be to careful I guess.

Wow I never had a BSOD on Windows 7 till I left my PC on for a few days like you. I thought it was a few things and tried a few options before this shown up
