Well I'm some one that don't like it.Yes it has some real nice features,but I just bought a new computer with OS7 on it.I also bought a new 22" monitor.The system did not set the resolution for the monitor.I had to do it manually.Not a big issue,but I didn't feel I should have to do that.It continually locks up.It does it so much,I can't put a finger on the problem.Windows Live Mail.I don't like the idea that I'm forced to use it.I was very happy with Outlook Express.I don't like the changes to the desktop folders.Especially picture folders.It seemed to me the old XP system was much easier to use.
Flame me now if you may,but I wanted to say that there is some of us out here that are not totally happy with OS7.
I will stay with it,because I feel I have no choice.It is the future.I'm sure at some point in time I will be more comfortable with it and that time can't come soon enough.

Recommend taking it back to where you bought it and tell them to replace it. New computers shouldn't be locking up out of the box.

I would like to recommend trying out different e-mail clients, I use thunderbird, till you find one you are comfortable with using.

And the picture libraries are just shortcuts to the folders that you are storing images. I believe I saw a tutorial on this forum that explains how to turn those off...

Once again I followed your advise and took my computer back for a replacement.I have been online with the new one for around seven hours and no lock up problems.I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I would bet the vast majority of windows 7 haters are people who can't afford to buy a computer that can run windows 7, let alone buy a copy of windows 7 itself.

Yes I can afford it, but no I don't need to. Just to be frank now, Vista was such a bad shame you'll have to admit it should be pretty easy for people to love 7 no matter what color or smell it has.

Either way, I still don't hate Windows. Windows hates me, instead. The only thing I really hate is the fact there's so many fanboys making it sound like it's the shiniest thing on earth when basically it can't even let you play smooth video out of the box. You have to be McGyver himself to figure that one out, even. If you don't believe me, then please tell me why there's still no option in Windows to put an LCD TV in 23.976 Hz mode? Even a child knows upscaling it to 24 Hz isn't the brightest amoung bright ideas nowadays anymore. My grandmom taught me if I want things done the way things ought to be done, I'll have to do them myself. Lucky ******* that I am, I already did.

:sarc: I don't understand why people still believe this. Vista was a victim of poor marketing and lazy driver developers. It wasn't, and isn't, a bad operating system. It laid the groundwork for the OS we've all come to love on this board. 7 wouldn't be possible without Vista.

I believe that Vista was the victim of unrealistic expectations of people with underwhelming hardware. MS must share part responsibilty.

I think you are right. My uncle ran this computer for a little over a year with Vista Ultimate 64 with no issues....of course, this was after the service pack was out, and he's much more knowledgeable than I.

Agreed. I was happy with Vista x 64. It worked just fine, although it did have a couple of funny quirks - like my HP printer driver that took 13 tries to install.

I went to Seven because it had some improvements over Vista, that simple. It's a little leaner, meaner, and cleaner than Vista, and overall uses less memory and resources to do the same job. What's not to love?

But if Seven hadn't come out last year, I'd still be happily using Vista. I use nothing but XP in my three work machines due to legacy hardware requirements. It was great for it's time, but things change, and it's time to move on as hardware drives us ever forward. Every OS has it's problems at first, and Seven is no different in that respect, but reading a lot of the complaints around here makes me wonder if most of them come from people without a great deal of computer know-how and are just confused, or else from people who just don't like change.

Vista wasn't a bad shame. After SP1 came out I had no problems with it at all. It was a necessary step. Has anyone noticed that Creative Labs, once the king of sound cards, hasn't released anything new in 4 years? That's because EAX was made completely moot due to the DX10 changes.

An LCD that runs at only 23-24Hz??? Sounds very slow! My LCD is at 60Hz...

Upscaling on your monitors refresh rate? What in the world are you talking about?

As far as I know upscaling refers to the resolution, and upscaling is a technique used by many DVD players to get hi def from a non hi def source... i.e. taking a 720p DVD and mathmatically altering it to equal the pixels in a 1080i DVD.

So again what in the world are you talking about????

Well, I didn't expect so many replies to my post but Vista was just slow and you had to dig a hole to find what you were looking for. Changing its overall settings could have been made much easier. That's been kind of fixed in 7, I know.

I just think there's alot of whistles and bells that I don't need and also there's alot of annoyances that weren't there in XP really. It takes precious time to get used to what's been changed and to figure out how to overcome new problems, and a few new bugs as well. That's why my enthusiasm towards 7 is somewhat moderate for now, even though I must admit it could have been alot worse nevertheless.

As far as smooth video playback goes, the framerate of most of my movies is 23.976 so that means I have to use a custom resolution for 1080p, 1920x1080 23.976 Hz 32 bit. Player software that 'converts' it to 24 or 60 will always cause visible judder. So actually the correct term here is 'upsampling' and not 'upscaling', I apologize for that. So far, I have only found one player that's capable of letting me entirely avoid micro stutter with 23.976 framerate files.
