Custom Themes, Icons and Start Buttons.

Forgive me for asking a newbie question, but this thread is too large to go all the way through. I have a PNG/ICO file that I'd like to use as my start button (it would be the same all the time, so I don't need different versions for hovered on/clicked on).

What exactly do I need to do to get it in a BMP I can use? It's totally black, on a transparent background, so...

I had a really cool custom start button when I had Vista but it doesn't work in 7. I tried converting the file myself but it only made the start button invisible. Here's the png file from the original vista theme.
