The "arrange by" options on my library folders cannot be selected, that is they are grayed out.

This has been happening for the greater part of 2 weeks. I cannot think of any major changes to my computer except that my family has bought a new router, which I do not believe would cause this.

This is the case for every one of my library folders.

I bet this is a simple problem with a simple remedy.

Thank you for your time!

The "Clear changes" option under the "Arrange by" correct?
Currently, none of the folders has that option (except the Music folder), however whenever I change the "Sort by" ect., it becomes available and just changes it back into the grayed out state.

Ok. You might see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to fix this. If not, then a repair install should be able to without losing anything.

Thank you for your help but I have figured it out! :D

I turned off the "Indexing Service" feature in Windows Features.

Going through Control Panel > Programs > Turn Window's Features On/Off.
I must have accidentally unchecked this feature when I was getting rid of the search function on the start menu.

Hello,

I'm having this same exact problem.
Our IT department updated me to Windows 7 pro and all the arranged by options are greyed out.
I can use sort by, but then I have to keep arranging on a minute to minute base depending on what I'm looking for/working on.

IT has said they'd look into it but it's been a month. I tried the option in this thread but that doesn't help.
I okay with a computer so I can follow instructions on trying to fix.
Thank you for any help at all!
