Crash dump

As I start CPU-Z I get the error code 0x5.

After agreeing to show the error log file, cpu-z starts but the memory tab is all empty, no numbers are shown.

This is the error log (report log is attached as a .txt file):

[bInitDriver] path = C:\Users\CARTER~1\AppData\Local\Temp\
[bInitDriver] GetCurrentDirectory = C:\Users\CARTER~1\AppData\Local\Temp\Rar$EX00.401
[bInitDriver] GetModuleFileName = C:\Users\CARTER~1\AppData\Local\Temp\Rar$EX00.401\cpuz64.exe
[vGetOSVersion] m_iOSVersion = 2 (6.1)
[vGetOSVersion] m_bIsAMD64 = 0
[bInitDriver] m_hDriverMutex = B4
[bInitDriver] m_szPath_2 = C:\Users\CARTER~1\AppData\Local\Temp\\cpuz132\
[bInitDriver] m_szFilename = cpuz132_x64.sys
[bLockDriverHandle 00:50:36] WaitForSingleObject error = 0
[WinNT_bInstallDriver] szMachineName = JUPITER
[WinNT_bInstallDriver] OpenSCManager failed, error code = 5
[vReleaseDriverHandle] release mutex = 0
[bInitDriver] bInitDriver returned 5
[vCloseDriver 00:50:36] WaitForSingleObject error = 0
[WinNT_dwUninstallDriver] OpenSCManager failed, error code = 5
[vCloseDriver] CloseHandle(mutex) = 1

With the temperatures I'm pretty sure they're all within "safe limits". However, I cannot test the temp of memory which feels very hot on touch although it has it's own cooler.

try turning off or unninstalling your AV and firewall when installing , I beleive CPUZ recommends > Error 5 - Error Code 0x5 Errors on your system may be caused by invalid registry entries and outdated or corrupt drivers. You need to delete old drivers and install new also make sure your the administrator ?

CPU-Z results seem fine:

do the manufacturers specs agree with yours shown @ 5.5.5.15 and a voltage of 1.8v ?

and do all the slots show the same ?

I set 1.9V n bios as specified (http://www.patriotmemory.com/products/specs/PSD22G8002.pdf), but cpu-z is still reading 1.8V.

Same thing with FSB. I get 800 MHz in bios and 400 MHz in cpu-z (for ram).

this is where ram can be incompatible with a motherboard where the manufacturers set all the parameters and some ram types just aren't catered for or will work, It wouldn't surprise me if you get problems with the ram running low by 1v

this could be enough to make the ram run at a lower clock speed or tip over and lose data causing a crash ............

If you go to the gigabyte site for your board then follow the Memory Support List it looks like your ram type isnt listed, this voltage discrepancy could be why

FSB is ok and no problem as it is actually 400mhz but as its DoubleDataRead which reads from both the ends of the ram it gives you an effective 800mhz ;)

the big question is DO you still get crashes ??

have a look through performance information and tools\advanced and through event viewer check for any errors just before the time of your freeze ?

ram can cause this or graphics drivers ?

These are the only system events I could gather:

-The previous system shutdown at 13:17:50 on ‎4.‎2.‎2010 was unexpected.

-The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

The reboot was done by me by pressing the reset button.

I guess I'll have to test with another RAM (not Patriot).

I uploaded another crash dump (from today). Looks like increasing the ram voltage from 1.8 to 1.9 didn't help much. I went to bios and set 2.0 V after the reboot. I hope it helps.

Hi and welcome

It still is memory corruption. You should
download memtestx86 and run for at least 5 passes.

run a system file check
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow

let us know the results

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an

caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.

    bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)

Probably not, but first I want to make sure it's really RAM issue, not CPU.

Here are 2 more minidumps from today, just in case if it points out to something else.

the second was ntkrnlmp.exe again which is a symptom not a cause

New crash dump (18.2.2010) uploaded. I've increased vcore again, this time to 1.4v. I don't think it safe though, but since I'm very tired with this non-working situation and have tried virtually everything, I don't see any other option. Meanwhile, if you check the minidump, you'll probably find out that the reason for the crash haven't changed.
