I just wanted to know whether i can still download and install the RC now even though the retail version is out. I still have the 7100 version on disc so i can install that. But is it possible to still find serials to activate the RC? Im planning on using it till it expires sometime next year.

Thanks

They will work, but remember that the bi-hourly shutdowns will start in March. I do remember the x86 and x64 having unique product keys whilst the article seems to imply they were shared.

MS just designated some keys x64 and other x86

If you're afraid the others won't work, I have one for you that I never used. I thought it would be useful to have more than one key.

They stopped RC downloads in August, but still issue keys for those who already have the software.

They did indeed issue the same activation keys to everyone. There are maybe a couple dozen total keys that they listed differently for x86 and x64, but I believe they'll activate either version.

The bihourly shutdowns begin in March when the RC technically expires (before full shut off in June). They haven't indicated when they'll cut off new activations.

If you're sticking with the RC for now, I'd remember that all drivers, software, etc. getting put out there are being made compatible for the Retail version. If there are conflicts with the RC that start cropping up, they're not supported. If you're going to move to the final version eventually, there's no advantage in waiting all the way to March or June.

RC is greatly inferior to RTM. It was still buggy. It had a ton of monitoring software taken off in RTM.

I'd personally use the RTM and rearm for 120 days total while I save up a dollar a day to buy an Upgrade, or $150 to get 3 family licenses. These licenses are for life, folks.

wow i didnt realize it was so soon that the RC runs out. I think i'll just save up and buy the retail version.

What's the point of bumping a 3 month old thread that's talking about a version that has already begun it's expiration process.
