Windows 7 Data Corruption A hotfix is available from Microsoft

Microsoft warned that testers of Windows 7 could come across data-corruption issues on various machines including computers from Lenovo and HP. The Redmond company revealed that the problem was associated with the Beta Build 7000 of Windows 7, but said nothing about any superseding development milestones such as Windows 7 Build 7048, 7057 or the more recently leaked Build 7068.

According to the software giant at fault are the Offline Files service and the Client-Side Caching (CSC) driver, which fail to play nice together. Users running Windows 7 on Lenevo T60p, on Lenovo T61p, and on HP portable machines are at risk of having their data corrupted.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

I have off line files disabled so do you reckon it would affect me? Im also running 7068.

Yeah i also have offline files disabled. I can't find the download link, but I highly doubt that it would affect those running a build higher than 7000. Just like the other updates that were released for the beta, those were meant for the beta and attempting to run the MSI would result in an error.

You have to run a general search according to the 3rd party source that provides those like Intel and other companies that manufactur external hard drives included with softwares and drivers. Those are two main storage controller drivers seen named there.

If M$ did not support Win7 there would not have been embedded Feedback links in every window in build 7000....

I would not doubt *anything* right now - this is a *beta* these kinds of issues are to be expected.

You're welcome! As you can see that won't be enough however. When originally installing the software for a external usb drive here those same files were then seen in the device manager on Vista and XP at the time.

As far as support for 7 being seen at this time you have to sign up the Technet forum 7 section MS setup there. That's where the group of MVPs will come in along with just about anyone else. They won't offer help on any leaks there! Windows 7 Beta Category

If you already have a Windows live id you can browse through there at any time. But for any tutorials and real help on successive builds stay tuned to http://www.sevenforums.com/

(the few tutorials there lack quite a bit! Brink has done far more for both 7 and Vista forums here as you'll notice.)

Know anyone running an external usb hard drive in Vista? The same name is also seen on the same types of files in XP there. The problems being seen in 7 will have to be addressed there for storage device controllers.

Your best option? review the support site at the drive manufacturer for any patches for Vista and try it on 7. They might even have an updated patch showing Vista/7 beta at this time.
