I just hooked up my 5.1 surround sound system via a digital optical cable & I'm not getting any sound?

Its hooked up through my sound card

I've had this working no problem before I moved. I have everything plugged in & the SAT as the preset for the sony 5.1

The sound card is pumping music out of my little desktop speaker via a 3.5 mm jack just fine though?

I'm still dead in the water with my midi controller until I figure this out.

I just don't undestsnd everything is connected properly, shouldn't it just work? The 3.5mm works if I unplug it and plug it back in?

Did you remember to change the default to digital or spdif in either the Windows audio properties or the cards own control panel?

See this pic I just tried that again & the s/spif meter gets a signal but nothing is coming out of the speakers or the subwoofer...

What could it be? The optical cable isnt bent or cracked or anything?

Looks to me like you still have the onboard audio enabled and without the drivers installed. You also don't have your TB card selected as the default playback device, but the onboard.

If you aren't going to be using the onboard audio, go into the bios and disable it.

hmm ok. I can do it with a little help. How/where should I go into bios & what section will I need to go to in order to disable the onboard audio?

I thought I had the drivers installed for the turtle beach sound card... it seems to register under sound as you can see by the last pic?

As for how to enter the bios and disable the onboard sound, read the manual that came with your motherboard, or download it from the manufacturer.

Ok so I went in my bios & found the only section that was refering to sound & disabled it & then it actually removed my s/pfid setting...

See here, it shows enabled now because I took the picture of the bios after I changed it back but the Sound control settings was taken while it was disabled after a restart...

I dont get it, I have my computer speaker working through my sound card via 3.5mm jack, but yet the optical that is on the same sound card isnt working even when I set s/pfid as default in the sound settings? (The meter still moves, but no sound at all?)

Ok I did all of that & tried both 44.1 & 48khz & still nothing. The meter bar inside of the sound device is moving, but I dont even get anything to my sub..

I tried to disable everything other thand the s/pdif & it still didnt work and now the other options are gone for me to enable them again - how do I do re-enable them?

Any other ideas?

are you connecting this sound card to an (receiver/amp) or 5.1 speakers? what kind?

you might want to check and see how many s/pdif ports you have on the back of each.
I know i have 3 on my computer, 1 in > 2 out ..
and on my receiver i have 2 1 in > 1 out

though i use an x-fi card..

yeah there is only 1 optical port on my card & my sony 5.1 - the surround plugs right into the dvd/amp (its a box kit 5.1, but its still nice)

I used to have it hooked up fine on XP Pro, but I dont think I've ever tried setting it up on 7 until now.

But I'm still stuck?
