in nerd speak i think noob is a derogatory term.

True, though most people don't understand the difference between the noob and the newb.

The newb is shorthand for newbie, someone who is inexperienced and needs help.

The noob is generally someone who is experienced, but acts like a newb in order to gain attention. As well as someone who just acts stupid in general.

Interesting - I always thought they had the same meaning. So noob is somewhat pejorative?

I'm sure glad I am not the definitive "noob" then. I don't act like I'm clueless to get attention, if I ask a dumb question, it's because I really don't know the answer.

Yeah, and to OP is usually some new member, that can give 0-1 rep. I think more senior members should be able to give 10-20 rep for helping some noobie, instead of having to give the full 50 points, which they dont usually even give.

+1 to that Coolness. We should be able to decide how much we give.

John has said this before, that's how I know. The version of vBulletin this forum is using does not support variable rep levels. It would be nice, but it is not possible.

I guess he could make us all admins, that would work. :roflmao:

How's it going all? Creeping up on my first "Golden Turd" I believe you more experienced Gurus call them. I thoroughly enjoy this community, and look forward to working together to foster the good will and knowledge of Win7 to the less fortunate. Also fact that eventually Win7 will take over the computing world means we are all on the bleeding edge!

I have worked with Windows since before Windows; yes DOS my friends...DOS. I skipped Win 1.0, (I went through a Mac phase in the late 80's) Came back to Win 2... Win 3... 95... etc. My point is I flat out, bottom of my heart... KNOW that Win 7 is the best Windows ever!

Sure there are some quirks here and there... but what initial release hasnt had the same issues? It's faster... better... stronger than before. Can you tell I like it? LOL!

Enough ranting on the MS bandwagon gospel tour... I do enjoy it here!

But till now, Windows 7 IS the best but definitely NOT the best ever. There's still more to come

I had used Vista 32bit on my first laptop, also the first PC to be mine,for a year, which is when i started experimenting, and learning new things, since then, have a new PC and tones of new parts.

Still, i learn new things everyday.

On VF i've only got a power user badge because I guess there isn't much that I can help around with there. At SF, on the other hand, I seem to have gone up in the ranks and even got a GFX badge. But if I didn't start off at VF, would never have got to where I am now, even though I haven't got any of the things I was awarded over at VF.

I like to think I am still leaning, win7 is still a "new" product after all, and I can remember a time when your major graphics decision with a new system was the choice between a "green on black" or "amber on black" monochrome screen display

i know the feeling of learning so much in a short period of time. even though i grew up with computers and had been using them since the 80's i really didn't know much about how to fix them. i was studying pre law and my roomie was a programming major, i really learned a lot from him and still to this day consult him for issues im having problems with.
