I just upgraded from a 8800GT to a Radeon 5870, and after I ran the WEI.. well, I'll show you.

My 8800GT gave me a 6.8 on the Gaming graphics scale.

Is something wrong with my card?

Have you tried re-running it?

Do you have the right driver installed?

Im positive I have the right driver installed. And I just re-ran the test, and it bumped up to 6.0 but my old card still gave me a 6.9.

Another thing I want to point out.. Thats troubling.. Is that at idle, it sits at 50ishC. Is that normal?

I don't read too much into the wei as it is not very accurate at all.

One example of why;

Some guy on here the other day had 7.2 for a 9600gt, another had 6.5 another had 6.6 and another had 6.9. I take into account overclock but there is no way a 9600gt chip would score 7.2.

I have a 9800GTX+ oc and that scores 7.0.

OP,
Take it with a pinch of salt.

As long as you see an increase in frame rate from the new card when gaming and there are no graphical issues then I wouldn't worry about it.

It can be a common problem with the new ATI 5 series. It's a know issue. Part of the WEI graphics test initiates UVD mode of the card. In the 5 series the GPU & Memory frequency is much lower (GPU-400Mhz) than full 3D mode. ATI are working on a detection fix so that the card goes to full 3D when WEI is detected.

@ idle 51 is normal for me on a 5850. Depending on your cooling inside your Computer case it might change. Mine isn't the most air efficient since its geared towards quietness. If you take a look at the CCC and its at the bottom for Temp on the ATI overdrive it will show it as low. Graphics cards do run hotter so don't worry. If you really must focus on the that Wei score and deleting it did not help a re install might change it but not worth it.

Do you see a difference in video games and other applications that use the graphics card?

Dual/multi card setups aren't counted in the WEI.

The score is based off a singular (primary) card.

Only the primary card is evaluated and not the two as some people seem to think.

Something must be wrong with your wei because if you look at fabes gtx260 that also scores 7.2(which is right) yet is something like twice as powerful as a 9600gt.

I'm not having a go because I think 9600gt's are really good value for money(I just sold one) but I can't ever see any 9600 scoring a true 7.2 regardless of how much it is overclocked.

Pinch of salt = wei

Yeah for sure. I notice a huge difference when it comes to games. I dont want to mess with the overdrive stuff. Just the fanspeed so I manually raise it sometimes

Re-run the WEI

You don't need to do that.

Control Panel -> Performance Information and Tools -> (left hand side) Advanced Tools -> "Clear all Windows Experience Index scores and re-rate the system"

Actually, sometimes you do ;)

I had a similar issues (scoring a 6.0) with a particular driverset that was only corrected by doing it the old and manual way.

In that instance, the Clear and re-rate function neither cleared nor re-rated correctly.
