hotmail account and Outlook 2010

When I install my hotmail account into my Outlook 2010 I cannot have that account in my regular pst.

How can I solve that so that I have all my accounts just in one pst?

I don't think you can because hotmail is web based and outlook is pop3, so they have to be seperate

But isn't it bizarre? Is it not possible to pop3 a hotmail account?

both are from Microsoft and they repeat they want to make our lives simpler and interconnected....

A question; I am not challenging you. How do yo know your PST file does not contain the Hotmails? On my machine, I have the following:

outlook.pst
archive.pst
~outlook.pst.tmp

Unless my outlook.pst contains the Hotmail emails, where are they stored?

I am certain because after I install my hotmail account in my MS Outlook 2010 I have two different folders: one for all my accounts (gmail, personal from other domains) and the other one for my hotmail.
So I know that for sure

I have the same. I think that is because Outlook syncs with Hotmail. My folders on Hotmail and my Hotmail folders in Outlook are identical and contain the same emails, When I delete a Hotmail email from Outlook, it deletes on Hotmail itself also.

He want his hotmail to be incorperated with his outlook mail, like all in one inbox, and that can't be done because they are two different types of mail as i said in my first post.

I have the same thing OliverPe, my hotmail account i've had probably 15 years, back when there was an aboundance of free carreirs and dialup, and thats why you could carry your email address with you, your mail stayed on the server as web based mail.

I don't know anyway to do what you want because of the synchronization between Outlook and Hotmail. I am just happy that that MS finally enabled pop3 access to Hotmail.

hey guys. Sorry but I don't understand your answers quite well.

I was able to pop3 a gmail account and to pop -with other accounts (not hotmail...)- to only one pst.

So, I don't understand why I cannot do that with hotmail moreover when I am using Microsoft Outlook

I mean, is is so weird what I am asking, when man plans to go to touch Mars... ?

I still raise my original question. I am able to view, read, reply to the Hotmail emails in Outlook 2007 while off line. These emails must be stored on my computer somewhere and I assume that is in my pst file.

I do have a separate inbox for Hotmail as opposed to the inbox for my other four email accounts as shown in the snip I posted previously. I know of no way to combine the Hotmail inbox into my main inbox. My guess is that Outlook sets Hotmail up this way because of synchronizing with the Hotmail account. This really works very well in that when I delete emails from the Hotmail inbox in Outlook, these emails are also deleted from Hotmail.

There are 2 diff ways to configure hotmail into outlook 2010. One using the outlook connector, no pst files for this type. Another using pop3 settings. Using this, u can point ur mails to ur orig outlook pst. This can be done while setting up. If not, open account settings, select the hotmail account and click on change folder and select the folder inside ur personal folder i.e other than hotmail.

Other option is to recreate the hotmail account and specify ur orig outlook pst for email delivery.

Thank you both very much for the information. I will reset mine this evening. Good info on the ost file. I was not aware of this. This is what I love about this forum; I never cease to learn.
