Avira AntiVir 10 is Out

Version 10 of Avira AntiVir is currently available for download, and users will be able to access the download links at the bottom of this article. The promise from the German AV company is that the latest iteration of its security solutions brings to the table malware-protection enhancements, as well as improved manageability options, new security features, and a redesigned graphical user interface. At this point in time, users can grab the free flavor of the offerings Avira AntiVir Personal, but also Avira AntiVir Professional, and Avira Premium Security Suite.

What's New :
New Gui:
· Avira AntiVir, version 10 will be released with a new graphical user interface that features a completely new set of icons as well as a new 3D navigation bar and a continuous background picture.

· The new user interface keeps the proven elements of the old interface and the customer does not need to get into a new interface. However, the new icon set and the other new elements make it much easier for the customer to find his way around the program.

Avira AntiVir ProActiv :
· Avira AntiVir, version 10 is now equipped with a brand new host-based intrusion prevention system called Avira AntiVir ProActiv. AntiVir ProActiv constantly monitors the behaviour of the system in real-time and looks for unusual events.

· An integrated rule-system is able to decide proactively if a certain event (or a combination of events) indicates that the system is currently under attack from a new or unknown malware.

· If a rule matches the user is then able to decide what to do with this ...

Running Avast and Avira both at the same time to compare RAM usage.

While Avast is at 3-5 MB, Avira is between 15-20 MB.

a2 is the ONLY antivirus-program i have used for several weeks now,
and my PC is running without any problems.

i´m going to do a REALLY BIG A/V-scan with several other A/V´s like Avira, Avast, MSE, Kaspersky etc.
to see if a2 might have failed to detect something.

Here's the thing though. On a 4GB, Quad-Core system I don't feel a load running Avira, and I'd rather rely on a trusted and tested AV suite than one that I've never heard of.

During scan are approx. 100 MB free RAM required. We suggest to use it on computers with at least 512 MB RAM, best would be 1 GB RAM.

Unlike other malware scanner products, a-squared Free was designed to run parallel with other antivirus and firewall software without troubles. In case you find a conflict with another software, our support team will help to solve the problem quickly.

The free one runs alongwith other AV, Hackerman is using the full anti malware.

but i have noticed the problem before when i post an URL to another forum-thread.

anyway, just copy & paste it into your browsers address-field, and you´ll get there.

and as you can read in that thread, that memory-usage IS correct,
confirmed by Emsisoft, a2 only uses 2 processes for it´s realtime-protection.

i´m using the full version: a-squared Anti-Malware - Best protection against Trojan Horses, Spyware, Viruses, Worms, Dialers, Adware, Keyloggers and Rootkits

the FREE-version doesn´t have realtime-protection.

a2 is a well known A/V-program, although a lot of people have never heard of it.

take a good look at Emsisoft´s website, a2 has received a lot of awards in A/V & A/M-tests.

Dinesh: a2-FULL works very well together with other A/V´s, it has been designed to run with others.
