Win7 + Vista X64 dualboot inst.error :(

I´am using Win7 X64 b7057 primary on C: (second partition D: for data).
I tried to intall Vista 64bit for dualboot, but after GUI of installing Vista finished and FIRST restarted an error black screen appeared after dual b.
selection, when I select Vista:

failed to start
\windows\system32\winload.exe
status: 0xc000000d

And nothing helped /tried to repair from Vista DVD/.
I installed Vista to a partition created on the same HDD as Win7 as a "logical"
(it shows Win7) with 33GB free space /I think it should be enough/.
So the intaller of Vista didn´t finished installing Vista. Any idea how to fix it?
I read some articles about EasyBCD,etc but I´am not shure if my problem can be fixed with there utils. Can I install WinVista to a "logical" partiotion? /win 7 is on "primary"/

According to Can Vista boot from a logical partition? several users have experienced no problems installing Vista and running it from a logical partition. I suspect the problem actually lies in the fact that Vista did not add itself to the BCD Store correctly, and that Easy BCD should help you fix it up....

Thank you for your advice, unfortunately it didn´t help me, maybe I did something wrong. I use EasyBCD and VistaBootPRO but I don´t know what to set up exactly to fix the "wrong" starting. I have now this configuration:

1. Windows Vista 64 bit SP1 -set as "default"
2. Windows 7 64bit b7057

Any other idea how to fix it? I also tried 2 isos of WinVista, the result is the same, also tried to set WIn7 as "default".

It sounds like your Vista install did not complete.

I'd do it this way:

Partition drive
Install Vista
Install Win 7

Since the boot files and manager and such is more recent in Win7, it is backward compatible and should have no trouble recognizing the existing Vista install...

One thing I could add here could be seeing the Vista startup splash if you install Vista on the first primary followed by 7 on the second. Vista here however is the 32bit Home Premium with the 64bit 7000 soon to be 7077 on the second. The 32bit 7000 when installed also uses the Vista splash as well sharing the same BCD file.

Thx for advice, I know that th older system should be installed first but for now I don´t wont to reinstall W7 and I want to finish Vista installation but cause of that error message I don´t know how to fix it easy way without reinstalling W7

If so, open an elevated cmd prompt , type bcdedit {enter} and post the results.

Johngalt already identified the problem as being an incorrect bcd entry. It might be possible to correct that from the command prompt, instead of VistaBootPro or Easybcd.

I have one HDD:
C:\ primary ... about 50GB...Win7
D:\ logical .... 200GB +- ...for data
E:\ logical .... 33GB.... for Vista
F:\ DVD-RW

I thought that Vista can be installed to "logical" partition.

Yes, I tried that without a success - when selected to repair Vista it wrote
to me something like that it cannot be repaired. I also tried a repair from
the Vista inst.DVD. It goes through but after restart it was the same

Assuming it is, unhide any hidden partitions - if you have a small system partition created by Win 7, go into Disk Management and assign a drive letter - S for system for example.

Then boot from the dvd snd select command prompt.

Type:

DISKPART {enter}

LIST VOL {enter}

To leave diskpart, type

EXIT {enter}

Check the Vista partition is listed as E . It is not necessarily the same as seen in Windows - identify the Vista partition by its size or volume label.

The 7 dvd won't repair the boot loader when Vista went on ahead of it. The thing I think many are going to run into when attempting to install Vista after 7 is problems simply due to being too closely tied together.

Installing XP after Vista or 7 is a piece of cake there since you are working with two entirely different boot loaders not the updated version of the same. This is why you can easily see 7 added into Vista's BCD while you can't add Vista into XP's! The newer there has to go on last in order to solve the problems.

I did as you wrote and Vista partition is listed as E. But what next?
