windows seven network

i have 1 computer with windows 7 and a netbook with xp on a bt wireless network when i have connected my external hard drive in the wireless router usb port i can see the drive on my netbook in my network places it shows as disk_a1 and access it but i cannot find it on my windows 7 machine new to networking any ideas

You are probably using homegroup. When using mixed machines you should be using workgroup. It is easy enough to verify. Simply make a new connection using the workgroup model and when it works you can disable IPv6 and kill the homegroup.

Homegroup has connectivity issues on some systems

Try also sharing the drive and giving access to 'everyone' or appropriate users.

Right-click, properties, Sharing tab.
