I upgraded my ram about 3 weeks ago to 4 gigs. Computer is running slow and i get hit with a virus so i decide to reformat. For some reason, i wasnt able to format unless i took out this 2 gig stick. Everytime i tried to reformat, i always got blue screened. So I take the ram out and install windows 7, x64 and place the ram back in but the computer crashes and restarts every few minutes. The computer reads the ram as 4 gigs. Im currently in safe mode right now. Someone suggested taking out the new video card i installed so i did that but i still keep getting hit. What should i do?????

What you might want to do is download the memtest iso and run the memtest to see if you have any bad sticks of ram.

Are you sure your sticks are properly seated? And, are your sticks mis-matched? You state that you upgraded to 4 gigs and couldn't reinstall Windows until you took a 2 gig stick out--are you sure your motherboard is capable of using 4 gigs of memory? Also, as the previous posters stated, it would be beneficial to have your specs listed. Is this a computer you put together or store bought? I had a computer a friend wanted me to install ram in and it was a store bought computer. The motherboard was capable of handling 2 gigs of memory. I had some DDR2-533 memory laying around from an upgrade of mine a long time ago. The ram I had was double-sided and the ram originally installed in her computer was single sided. I installed my ram and the computer saw the ram as the correct amount. However, every single time I would boot into windows, it would BSOD. Went to Fry's Electronics and purchased some Kingston memory, 2 gig kit, single-sided, and there was no problem whatsoever after that. So again, are your sticks mis-matched and are you sure your motherboard can handle 4 gigs?

Please include your system specs...

[Speaking for everyone else]
Thanks...:)

I went from 3 gigs of RAM to 6, and started having a lot of crashes and lockups. It turned out I needed a mobo BIOS upgrade to handle the extra RAM. Dunno if this is your problem, but it might be an angle to consider. Good luck...

What should i do?????

That sure sounds like bad ram to me... Either the new stick is bad or they are so seriously mismatched as to be incompatable...

When installing memory I *always* buy Kingston and *always* in matched pairs.

Shady313,

I am running a Gigabyte MB (Intel processor) on my system. I remember I had some issues with the default voltage for the Ram. It ran at 1.8V and my ram asked for 2.1V. Once I made an adjustment to the BIOS settings, I was up and running.

BEFORE you try anything like this MAKE SURE of the Voltage requirements of your RAM (I took a quick look at your link, but didn't see anything listed).

Don't Give Up!!

My Best

Michael
