"Scan and Fix" deleted all pictures from SD card

Hi,

I inserted the SD card into the laptop and it asked me to "Scan and Fix (Recommended)" so I did... after it did that, I checked the drive and went into the folders, however, I didn't see any pictures at all... Folders were all intact and I doubt the drive went corrupt since it never asked me to format it... it's just that all of my pictures are gone and I have to do recovery... not sure what the success rate is on that procedure...

does anybody happen to know why that happened??
is there a possibility it would've saved the pictures onto the laptop?? I've always clicked on "scan and fix" and it's always worked seamlessly.................

Thanks

If that card was formatted FAT and there was a bad jumble of the fat table at a major intersection of folder entries you could easily lose the entire folder tree or a good chunk of it to a chkdisk /r. FAT is easily corruptable and "fixing" it frequently involves chopping off whatever limb has gotten hacked up. NTFS is extremely resiliant to that but no cameras or other typical devices you put SD cards into support that of course... :)

99% of the time you just lose a file or two but there is a small chance that a directory entry itself may get munched and that is a lot worse :(

Rare, but it happens. Part of my job is to find ways of preventing that from happening on our devices :)

hi, i got the same problem here after the "scan and fix". Can i know which program you have installed last time? and How did you recover back your photo? Recover those photos from the SD card or laptop?

Well, it happened to me before but I did not know why. I pressed the "Yes" button when there was a pop-up screen asking me to "Scan and fix", then I found all precious photos and video clips on my SD card were gone. I googled my problem trying to find out some way to get them back. There were many programs suggested on the search result and I chose one, the Jihosoft Photo Recovery. Seemed this tool served me well. Maybe you can give it a try!
