hey mikinho,
first of all as with most other people, i would love to say great program i love the idea of what you have developed, it is what people in microsoft who are getting paid should be thinking of!
secondly, i am having major troubles getting yammm started, i have installed it to the letter of your guide online, added the appropriate folders, ticked the correct boxes etc, and was wondering if you would be able to shed some light on why i am having this problem.
my movie locations are structured as so:
L:\Movies\Feature Movies
the movies are not in seperate folders, they are all .avi files and are all located in the "feature movies" parent folder.
some of the naming includes:
A Bug's Life
A Clockwork Orange
A Goofy Movie
A Mighty Heart
they do not have the year stamp on them but i was under the impression that yammm did the renaming for you.
do i need to disable the firewall or anything like that (i run no anti virus program) and what am i doing wrong!
any help would be much appreciated.
regards
nic

Hi Mikinho!

Great program mate, looking forward to v1.2 :D I had a couple of questions if you get a spare couple of minutes to answer...

I currently use my movie collection over a network like I assume a lot of people do - I store all of my movies on a Win XP machine and use a seperate Win7 machine as a media center that just looks at the movies on my main PC - my question is pretty basic, which machine do I need to install YAMMM on? I currently have it installed on the XP machine and it goes through my library & renames the folders, downloads folder images, I think it gets all of the correct metadata but when I view the folder from the windows 7 machine I only get the folder images - it can't seem to access the synopsis etc.

I assume if I had everything stored on the same windows 7 machine it would all be working perfectly but the network sitting in the middle is complicating things :)

What do I need to setup on the Windows 7 machine (or share from the xp machine) for the movie library to find the metadata?

Wow, this is a long post... lol.

You could install YAMMM on the xp machine, because it is not "Looking" for MCE, but rather the movie folders. Now I am not sure if you are using MB, but all you would do is point MB to your mapped or UNC folder. You need to go into your MCE library settings, and tell it to look for your mapped drives that are located on your xp machine. Example if you have parent folder called DVD's with sub folders of movies, then you would share the DVD's folders. Make sure to set the correct permissions. Then on the Win7 machine, create a mapped drive that points to: \\xpmachine\whateversharednameofdvdfolderis\. Hope this helps

What do I need to setup on the Windows 7 machine (or share from the xp machine) for the movie library to find the metadata?

You can choose to go a couple different routes:

1- Install on the W7 HTPC. With this you'll need to:

- Setup remote credentials on the Library tab
- Add the remote share to the movie folder list
- Under the metadata tab check Windows Media Center and the corresponding user accounts.

2- Keep it on the XP machines. With this you'll need to:

On W7 HTPC

- Share the %AppData%\Microsoft\eHome\DvdInfoCache folder and make sure to grant read\write rights to both the share and folder to whatever user account you want to use.

On the XP PC

- Under the Library tab setup remote credentials. For the username use the DOMAIN\username format. In this case the DOMAIN will be the computer name of the W7 HTPC.
- Under the Metadata tab, add the DvdInfoCache share you created as an additional folder.

v2 of Yammm will make this much easier.

I should probably mention that the windows xp PC that holds all of my movies is turned on 24x7 but the Win7 machine is only turned on when needed - does this affect which option you'd recommend?

I assume if I installed YAMMM on the Win7 machine it wouldn't be able to do the folder renaming & poster art unless I allowed it write access to the movie collection on my XP machine (I'm pretty nervous about allowing write access to anything across a network - it's saved me from dealing with a couple of virus outbreaks over the years...), but if I install it on the XP machine it would only be able to update the DvdInfoCache folder on the Win7 machine when it happened to be turned on - unless it can detect when the share is available and update it on the fly...

Am I heading in the right direction? :D

Definitely heading in the right direction. You do have a 3rd option which may work out for you.

Install Yammm on both systems. For the XP PC leave as is. It will do the artwork, renames, ...

On the W7 HTPC configure an account with read access to the remote share. Leave all the default settings except for under the Metadata tab selection Windows Media Center and check all the accounts.

This setup is closely to the way v2 works. I haven't tested the read-only but it should work out, if you do have an issue let me know and I'll send you an update.

it worked great mikinho, went through and edited movie names as appropriate.

1 more thing to note, there was some conflict as i already had album artworks to accompany the movies, so when viewing in WMC the program did not know to use the movie file or jpeg as they were named exactly the same.

oh and another question, i have not been able to get yammm to dl the synopsis of any of my movies, the XML file is very basic it only comes up with 3 or 4 lines, and off the top of my head i know the second line says the movie titile and the third line says something like this "YAMMMMID00023 - A23119a"

do i need to manually adjust these and enter in the synopsis or am i doing somthing wrong?

cheers

nic

That is the proper XML file. The YAMMMMID00023|A23119A correlates to another XML file Media Center uses for the actual data.

That corresponding XML file will be located in %AppData%\Microsoft\eHome\DvdInfoCache. If that file is empty or missing then something is either not selected or conflicting.

Setting up YAMMM for two partitions.

Hey guys, I have a question.

Currently I have two partions both containing media files, on my C drive its saved in the videos library and on my other partion "G" its saved in a normal folder.
How do I go about setting up the YAMMM feature for both locations.
I also have alot of series which are in .avi and also other video formats, will this function in MC work for that aswell?

Thanks

Just add both folders to the Library tab as Movie locations.

The current version, v1, does not do do TV series, it is for movies only. For movies it can do any format that Media Center detects as a video.

Do you have resizing setup in Yammm? Depending on the size of your media collection I've seen some setups where Media Center will run out of available memory and clear the images (along w/ some other nasty side effects). If you don't, give Medium\92 a shot. If you do, let me know so I can help troubleshoot.

First of all, thanks for the quick reply...

Yes I did set it to "medium" and 92, but it still does the same.
If I set it to a lower value NOW, do I have to delete all the artwork manually and let yammm download it again or will it update the jpegs automatically?
