7077 Breaks Firefox 3.07 and 3.08

You can't restore bookmarks. When you locate the restore file .json, Firefox crashes.

It worked fine in 7068. It looks like MS is going backwards again.

Yes, you can do that, but they end up in alphabetical order instead of the order you originally set them in. If you use the Restore feature, they restore exactly as you had them.

That is one of the features that Firefox is much better at than IE.

I think it depends upon a few things, but I suppose that if you upgraded that some of your user directories may actually be 'locked' due to permissions error b/c you changed the computer SID even if you used the same login and PW combo as before.

I have found that happen more than once.....

Since I actually use a separate HD for my profiles, I have to manually add them to Fx upon a reinstall, and I have seen this more than once, though, oddly enough, not in my actual folder that houses my profiles - but YMMV with this advice.

I did not change the SID. I upgraded over a working version of 7057. Everything else seems to work fine.

MS must have changed something that affects Firefox bookmarks. Because of their dwindling IE users, they may have done it on purpose. I have lost all faith in their integrity.

this is why you should install a clean copy and NOT upgrade.
i don't know why people keep reporting bugs from an upgrade from one pre-release build to another.
if you upgrade, you are definitely going to introduce bugs that aren't really bugs.
my imported bookmarks worked fine.

They are REALLY bugs. If you don't know the difference between "import" and "restore" then please refrain from your criticism. This is a bug in v7077. MS allows upgrades and therefore they should work or MS should not allow an upgrade!

actually i do know the difference. and import works just fine. it doesn't for you because you upgraded which you weren't supposed to do. the upgrade feature is there for an upgrade from Vista, not a previous test build.

Why not move your Firefox profile folder on another HDD/Partition where you save all your personal files?
It's kind of handy as whenever you do a fresh or an upgrade install you don't have to worry about anything but the plugins that are always(almost) installed in the plugin folder that is in the Firefox install directory.
Then when you install firefox, deselect the "launch firefox after setup is completed"(or something like that) and execute
"firefox -p" in the run command (Windows key+R) without the quotes and in the profile manager that pops up select "create profile" -> "Next", navigate your way to where you saved your firefox profile by selecting the "choose folder" then hit "finish" and you're set.

This method works reliably - for the most part.

I have been doing this for several years, starting in WinXP, through Vista and now up to Win7. However, it is also a good idea to make a full backup using mozBackup as sometimes things go stupid - I have had Fx not see a profile, have had it lose all of my NoScript exceptions, have had it lose other minor things....and just last night I had Thunderbird lose all of my account info (although the account folders themselves were still there....

Yeah, a good thing to use on a daily basis....using Task Scheduler....

Thanks for your help everyone. I reinstalled Firefox from scratch and still could not get Restore bookmarks to work.

I solved the problem by adding the Xmarks extension which works great for my needs.

I have another problem with Firefox 3.08 and Win 7077.

Whenever I open a website from Outlook 2007 or FeedDemon, I get an error message stating that "General Failure, the URL was http:// ..... an error occurred in sending the command to the application". Then Firefox opens to the website I requested, but the error remains on the screen in either Outlook or FeedDemon.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be causing this?

Make sure that Firefox is set as the default handler for http in Default programs.

This occurred also when folks first started using Fx 2.x on Vista builds.
