Brand new Win 7 randomly shutting down

I think there's a faulty batch floating about as the EBuyer rep said something about a few coming back. What number is a few?

Nice to know its resolved.

As my last attempt to solve this, I upgraded the PSU however the freezes still occur. I've given up and requested an RMA with ebuyer.

My old PSU was a Seasonic S12-300. It only had a 20 pin EATXPWR and a 4pin EATX12V connectors. And at only 300W, it didn't meet the requirements in the manual. I replaced it with a Corsair VX450W which had 24pin and 8pin power connectors. But as I said, it didn't help.

Solved

I think I've fixed my freezing problem! - the machine has been stable for a few days.

I changed the Ai Overclock Tuner from [Auto] to [X.M.P.]

This increased the base clock rate to run the memory at 1600 and reduced the CPU ratio from 20 to 17. It's still slightly overclocked. And I assume it has changed the memory timings.

The CPU and Memory are both on the QVL but I guess you can't rely on [Auto] settings. From looking at the ASUS support forum, it looks like this motherboard can be quite finicky with memory settings. Hopefully a BIOS update will fix this one day.

just to throw another stick in the mix, upgraded my system about 3 months ago Gigabyte H55MS2H mobo with i3 540 random shutdowns started straight away and i assumed the motherboard, when i spoke to the supplier they suggested it was the psu which was a 600w thermaltake from my old system and had served me well. so i swaped out the power supply with a new 550 thermaltake from another system. the 550 in my system worked fine and solved the problem, the odd thing was that the 600 in the other system also worked fine. interesting? well as i couldnt keep the 550, the 600 went back in and th problem continued, until one day it stoped, iv racked my brain trying to retrace what i could have dont, the only things that stand out are updating the motherboard drivers, replacing the backround picture and updating the bluetooth drivers. now the painful thing is i have done a clean install because i wasnt happy with the amount of crap on there and now my darling problem is back, i have upgraded the drivers and still no fix. i really pains me because i now know that it is a software problem i just dont know how to fix it.

Set X.M.P. for P7H55D-M EVO Freezing Issue

Confirmed. Setting X.M.P. also worked for me (stable for past 5 days). Was getting random freezing/shutdown issues on my HTPC in Media Center, Media Player Classic, or any other media player I attempted to use. I also set my CPU ratio as indicated in BIOS instead of leaving it on Auto. There needs to be a BIOS update from ASUS to address issues like this. Hope this helps others as it did for me. Thank you for posting your solution!!!

Found one other problem with the Asus P7H55D-M EVO with BIOS version 0806

If the Intel C-STATE Tech is Enabled under the Advanced CPU configuration, the machine will usually shut itself off when left to idle for a while - must be when it switches C state. The problem goes away when I disable this BIOS setting.

So need to set the X.M.P and disable C-STATE to get a stable motherboard. I've noticed a new BIOS version is out but haven't tried it and the release notes don't say anything about fixing these issues.

I know it is an old threat but i want to say that i had the same problem with my asus motherboard and intel i3 cpu for over a year and neither me neither seller/service couldn't solve that. I have changed psu, tested ram, stressed cpu, removed wifi pci card, changed operating systems and even bought video card ( i thought maybe gpu is not handling well) but nothing works. And thanks to "ianwi" i fixed problem, no more freezing and restarts !! THANK YOU ianwi !!
