You can if the mobo only supports DDR2 ;)

For gaming, they will all do the job. But in order of preference:

1) Corsair CMD4GX2M2A1066C5 Dominator = 5-5-5-15

2) TWIN2X4096-8500C5 = 5-5-5-15

3) TWIN2X4096-8500C5/C5C - XMS2 = Not really 5-6-6-15

4) Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX - XMS2 = 4-4-4-12 limited to 800mhz

4) Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C7 G = No. 7-7-7-20

Corsair and Gskill are both pretty good brands overall. Most important thing is to make sure your motherboard supports the one you pick.

And at the end of the day unless all you do is run benchmarks all day long, you would be hard pressed to notice much of a difference between value ram and the most expensive (a couple of FPS here and there at best).

One thing, make sure to check the qualified memory (QVL) list for your motherboard. Not too good to end up with something that isn't compatible. Most of the time it isn't a problem, but sometimes one model from the same manufacturer won't work where another from the same will.

Yeah, personally I concentrate on Video cards more than anything for my gaming rigs. If I am trying to save money on anything I will shave money off other pieces in order to get the best video card I can afford.

I agree. your specs say you have a Gigabyte board. Gigabyte is good for listing all thier specs online. If you dont know the model, get CPU-Z and look in the mainboard tab: CPUID

If you know what model it is, (or after you find what it is) google it. There should be a gigabyte webpage for that specific board and Rev#.

Look in the specs to see what it uses DDR2 or 3 and the max amount supported and the max speed supported. then look in the memory supported section to see if the one you want is in the supported list.

If its not, you might still be ok since they cant list all, but the most popular ones should be listed.

I would be more concerend about using any modern GPU with a PSU of only 350watts. If you want your system to perform with a modern GPU you will need a much higher output PSU.

I got a cooler master GX-650 Watt, I took the old one out. I must say the 650 is powerful because the sales man (who I know) said this PSU wil jump start any BMW M3-series.

I think any ram with a 1066 (533mhz x2) clock speed is good stuff, as long as the brand isnt complete and utter shit. PNY, Corsair, G.skill, OCZ, all good brands. I built a budget pc on ddr2 and I just grabbed 800mhz. It works just fine and I don't bottle neck.

Thank you very much for the link. Sometimes the little details people put into their posts, while nothing new to them, turns out to be very interesting to other board members......like me :geek: :orb:

I've had the best luck using GSkill and have recommended it many times with great success. Corsair has it's share of problems, OCZ by far the worst and is very picky about the settings, Patriot would be my second choice for gaming with GSkill number one.

I agree with you there with picky settings, but, at the same time, I have not really had a problem and i have 6GB of DDR3 Reaper-X modules, very good for gaming and i am very happy them.

But, that is my personal opinion.

I would recomend Kingstons Hyper-x as i also had a board with that ram, DDR2 800Mhz, even they were fine for gaming

I got a cooler master GX-650 Watt, I took the old one out. I must say the 650 is powerful because the sales man (who I know) said this PSU wil jump start any BMW M3-series.

Sounds like he is confusing Watts with Amps, ann more specifically Cold Cranking Amps (CCA). A stock M3 battery is 640 CCA. 640 Amps at 12.66 volts is 640x12.66= 8102.4 Watts.
