DVD Burning Issues

Hi There,

I am having an issue that seems to be related to Windows 7.

Whenever I try to burn any kind of DVD, using any program, Nero, Cyberlink Power2Go, even windows own built in burning software, every disk fails to burn.

When I boot into my Windows XP Partition on the same computer, using the same DVD drive, discs burn fine.

Having the same problem with my Windows 7 Laptop - - The main PC is running build 7068 x64 and the Laptop is running the x86 version of 7068

Any ideas folks?

Were your installs Upgrades or fresh and have they always had this problem or do you think it's possible that there is a conflict with something else you may installed?

On my Main PC - it was a fresh install of Windows 7, on the laptop, it was an upgrade.

Both installs were done the day before yesterday and this is the first time I've tried to burn a disc.

Both installs are fairly clean, havent installed much at all......so chances of a conflict are slim IMHO

Burning DVD's with build 7077 no problems at all here. Try imgburn.

Ok, the OP already has tried several products - the likelihood that another product will *work* when those failed, *particularly* the built in ISO burner, is pretty slim.

Therefore I say that there is something not working correctly on the system - and something very obscure.

Zach - please update your system specs (look to the link My System Specs to the left).

Also, have you made sure that every thing looks kosher in Device Manager? Have you *manually* installed *any* device drivers over the ones that Win7 installed? Do you have enough HD space to create a new partition and install another copy of Win 7 on that partition to test with a vanilla install? Also, have you checked for a BIOS update for your motherboard, as well as firmware updates for your Optical drive?

I have the same problem as zach21uk - tried DVD+R single and DL Verbatim but every time I try to burn almost "data" DVD or image files it fails.
Tried Nero 7,8,9 , CDburnerXP, ImgBurn,..same result For ex. in NERO 7-9
it sucks at the start of the burn process /DVD disc looks "empty" when you
look from the burning side/ - so in NERO I think it fails when writing lead-in.
When tried another burning sw sometimes it was burning to the end and failed verification of the disc or when I tried to copy some files from those
discs.
I have NEC 3520A (with hacked FW), so I tried ASUS DRW-1608P3S with regular FW. Both of them I tried as "MASTER" on ATA cabel.

I can not burn anything anymore
preversions win7 burned ok

I copied a DVD for a friend last week using the Windows7 DVD burning and it copied fine. I do use the cheap DVD+R disks from Office Depot.

However, the first run I made I thought it didn't work. Apparently, it copies the DVD to the hard drive and says it's done. If tell it to burn again then it writes to the DVD.

You might try entering device manager and finding the entry for your burner. Right click and select "delete," then OK and close device manager. Reboot.

This should cause Windows to redetect the burner and reinstall the drivers for the device and (hopefully) make sure the all of the other required .dll files required for burning are present and sane.

Honestly guys I think Win7 has an intermittent "burning bug".

Even in these forums there are heaps of reports of "can't burn with X software" or "Can't burn CDs but can DVDs" or "Burn process fails occasionally" or "this software burning program is not compatible with Win7".

My own experience is that about 15% of my burns are failing including ImgBurn and Ashampoo. Windows native has worked 100%. But that is a total of a cpl of CDs and maybe 10 or so DVDs.

By comparison I was getting nearly 100% success whatever I used in XP, same machine, same burner, same blanks. Maybe a 100 burns (probably more).

TechNet has a lot of similar burn troubles reported.

Maybe its just old drivers...

Absolutely correct,

sounds like you got yurself a busted DVD burner. but theres hope.

Try using a DVD-RW, they have a much higher data-retention rate than their DVD-R predecesors, and allows the program to automatically 'try again' for failed writing packets. Not to mention, you wont be spending a great deal of money of failed discs.

If that doesen't work, we still have hope! (well not for your drive, but for deploying the OS)

Try the USB method, this is by far the best, cheapest, fastest, and most reliable way to install Win7, (yes even better than PXE booting.)

Solution for me

I had the exact problems described in this forum, I removed daemon tools (DTLite4355-0068) and my problem disappeared.

I wish people would just blurt out you have a bust drive, when is clear Win 7 has issues with DVD burning...

I have a brand new machine. Roxio pre installed by Dell, and it just tells me no DVD drive. I can burn in Windows but is long winded and when go to do a further second disc - it tells me the blank is unrecognised and I can't eject it.

Also my trusty Nero 6 is now incompatible with Wn7 and Nero 9 is crap and still not 100% compatible.

I HATE WIN 7 !!

this is due to the way windows 7 handles burning tasks differnetly than previous versions. you will need to find an updated burner that is compatible with 7 to get past this issue.

as mentioned above windows 7 does seem to have a problem with many optical disc drives and them disappearing, this is most common on laptops. to fix this issue, shut down remove the drive. reboot. shut down again and reinstall the drive. get the correct drivers for your drive and install them now. the problems SHOULD cease to exist. i've found this to be the most common if not impractical way to fix this issue.

Burning Process Failed

I've tried nero9,nero10 suite,roxio creator, cdburnerXP, powerISO.. but at the end session i would get
"Burning process failed at... Fail to write Led-in." I use Win7. I've tried several time reinstalling the new copy on win7.. But nothing work so far. What have i missed? Pls Help Me.

same problem here

i have 2 pcs now as last processor burnt out due to cpu constantly going at 100% or above during encoding process using windows 7 when burning dvd, but works ok on vista and xp. Now on my new pc i tried it for fun but cpu still shows to be running at or about 100%. i am now in the process of contacting pc world to ask tyhem to help resolve the issue. Now i don,t burn dvds at all everything is div x so no matter what you all say or what microsoft tel you it is a flaw in windows 7 that needs a fix. So my advice to all is buy a dvd playetr that supports div x / x vid and burn everything as data dvd and you get 4/5 films a disk.
