Screenshots of new UI concepts for Firefox 4

It’s no secret that Mozilla is planning some major UI overhauls for their next major release of Firefox. The new theme is designed to reflect a modernized web browser to illustrate its “power, simplicity, and customizability.” The design team has outlined 4 main goals for the refresh:

• Streamline UI elements and reduce visual footprint
• Modernize look and feel
• Retain visual integration
• Maintain cross-platform consistency (Where applicable)

While the new theme has been revealed progressively, it is still a work in progress and the team is constantly making new adjustments and additions.

Chrome fan myself. Though I'm interested in this mainly because I use Ubuntu and Chrome on Ubuntu is quite.. off.

It looks much better then Firefox 3.6 (which is i think is ugly ). Firefox 4.0 sort of reminds me of Opera 10.5. I would use if they can make it as fast as chrome.

I have tried all the browsers and I always come back to Firefox. Right now I've got Minefield 3.7a5pre, pretty nice with some of the same icons shown in the article.

It is nice to have choices.

If you don't want to use an alpha/beta build and want the new look of Firefox 4 there's a theme combination you can use:



You'll need:

Strata40
StrataBuddy
Fission
Tab Progress Bar (Optional)

To Switch From a Removed Menu to a Consolidated One:
Extensions/TinyMenu ? Arantius

You can remove the New Tab & Refresh buttons in my screen shot, you can also completely remove the menu if you want. If you remove the refresh button you can place it on the end of the address bar. You don't have to use a transparent theme either and you can move the tabs below the address bar. My default config:

Enough to say that I HATE the new UI. Why changing something that works?

Firefox 4 will still support the menu bar with file, edit, view, etc (you can turn that off in current builds) and will also support tabs-on-bottom from what I've read.

You can do tabs on bottom (not tabs on bottom of address bar, but tabs on bottom of window) pretty easy w/ a userChrome.css modification.

i hope they dont change it mine is a appealing and has everything i need here and i love persona, though the download button is nice

i hope they dont change it mine is a appealing and has everything i need here and i love persona, though the download button is nice

You all realize you wont have to upgrade from 3.x to 4.x, right? Heck they are still making 2.x builds.

Oh, if that's available right off the bat in the options, without tweaking, it's awesome then.

Start > Type: Personalization > Press Enter > Window Color (at the bottom) > Click Show Color Mixer > Drag all to the left
