NVIDIA announced that they are starting a new initiative to merge driver releases for desktops and notebooks with their Verde program. Starting with the 256 ‘Fermi’ series of cards, all future driver releases will be universally compatible. This should come as great news to many notebook users who have been left behind with older driver versions, and often had to go through their notebook manufacturers for officially compatible releases.

While gamers are certainly going to benefit from this, it is also good news for those who want utilize programs that incorporate CUDA enabled performance enhancements. NVIDIA's 197 series driver will also enable utilization of 3D displays, and offer significant performance boosts for various games and applications.

GEEZ! FINALLY!!! I am an ATI fan, and I had ATI cards all my life. It's only been recently that I got in to nVidia since I just bought a laptop. And apparently, based on very extensive reasearch, only nVidia mobile GPUs seem to have GDDR RAM.

I don't know if ATI's support for Mobile GPUs is worse or better. Needless to say, I got very impatient waiting for nVidia to release updated drivers for my notebook.

Shopped at Newegg.

Not much different than from ATI, they started doing this a couple or releases ago. This is from the release notes from the Catalyst 10.3,

The following notebooks are not supported in this release:
-Any notebook launched after this driver release
-Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks using Intel chipsets.
-Toshiba notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver
support for these notebooks)
-Sony VAIO notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for
driver support for these notebooks)
-Panasonic notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for
driver support for these notebooks)

Rawr! TIGER DIRECT!! No, but i think that TigerDirect is the wallmart(ie: cheap prices, low quality) of tech. online stores. And i think newegg is the bestbuy+wallmart(ie: quality, but still cheap prices) of online tech. stores. So it all works out :P
