SFC /scannow now I have 3,522 files that won't delete

Hello All,

can you please tell me how to delete these files. I have tried to change permission but won't take AT ALL. I was finally able to access the sfc /scannow CMD and it says I do indeed have corrupted files but at the same time, it created these files.( attached )

also attached is the .CBS file.
I deleted all the previous scannow info from the date set on this rig.

1. can I delete them?
2. should I ?
3. how can I?

Try taking ownership of the folder, enable the default admin account, boot into safe mode then delete em..

How old are those screenshots, The reason I ask is the date on your taskbar is from last month. Not sure if thats part of your problem but I had some issues once when my date and time were wrong. If that's not the case, please disregard this.

Man that was a good catch! yeah, date and time not right on computer causes all sorts of weird problems. Get that fixed first and make sure your BIOS time is correct as well.

Are you using encrypting software? Have you checked with those folks?

I have not seen SFC make extra files. On mine, it replaces ones that are corrupt, if it can, and that is all.

I'll try the admin choice.
I have my win7 laptop 7days 10min 40seconds behind (atomic clock time ) just so I can clone when I need to ( like a situation like this )

I also think this is why I can't access my vista laptop.


but I'll make changes and try.

I do not understand why you need to be off on date and time to clone?

How about you tell us what you really are trying to do. Is it the VSS command not working, the sfc /scannow, or the files?


We can fix any of them but need to focus on what you really want us to do.

1-the files--they are all 1k files. Maybe pointers or shortcuts. Are you concerned for the space they take? or something else

2-the sfc /scannow--said you have cirrupt files. If sfc cant fix them then you need to do a repair install, or better still, a clean install

3-The VSS command not working. What does it say in event viewer? when did it stop working? did it ever work? Did you get into this mess just because you wanted to change the size of the VSS storage?

There is a poqexe.log in the winsxs folder. It normally only has a few entries. How many entries does yours have?

The CBS log shows many files could not be replaced because the file and its backup were corrupted. What it looks like is happening to me is the SFC is trying to replace files and queues them up, but cannot complete. I do not know what the shadow commands you are using have to do with it, but you seem to have a very large corruption problem. Or something is changing the files in your system, which is why I asked about the encryption aspect.

If you run SFC again, do you get the same types of files back you just deleted?
