I have a new computer with Windows 7. I do NOT want to use Windows Live Mail but instead Windows Mail (if possible)! I´d really appreciate if someone could please tell me if this is possible, and how to go about it!

It means install WM - should work just fine.

As in reinstating something that MS has removed.

Please follow the tutorial, do exactly as told, and you get Windows Mail. Read first the replies to the original tutorial and you can get some tips from other users who have done that.

The best place to more questions is that tutorial.

Windows Mail is no more supported in 7. It is replaced by Windows Live Mail.

Alternatively, if you have a Vista machine, manually copy the Windows Mail folder from %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\ folder from Windows Vista system, including the MUI language pack folder.

Grant full control permissions and ownership to administrators for %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\ folder in Windows 7 system.

Backup the %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\ folder in Windows 7.

Extract and copy the Windows Mail files from Windows Vista to %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\ folder of Windows 7, overwrite if duplicates are found.

Create a shortcut on desktop or Start Menu that points to %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\winmail.exe executable.

Let us know if this works.

Grant full control permissions and ownership to administrators for %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\ folder in Windows 7 system.

How do I grant full permission and ownership of something in W7? I have never done anything like that?

Extract and copy the Windows Mail files from Windows Vista to %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\ folder of Windows 7, overwrite if duplicates are found.

Does that mean I have to zip up whatever I copy from the Vista-machine? If so, how do I do that? :o

Yep kari, seen the tutorial.

Right click on the folder and select your user profile and click on Full access. you would be needing to click on Edit and then do it.

Not needed, just copy and past the folder.

Better, you can follow the tutorial link posted by Kari.

Following the step by step instructions in the tutorial I mentioned in my first post gives you Windows Mail back. You don't need Vista to do that. Everything you need to know and do is told there, every file you need to download is there.

Good luck in getting Windows Mail installed to your Win7. You have already got the simplest possible, perfect fix to your issue. When it's not good for you, I wish you luck trying to do it in some other, more complicated way.

Bailing out.

Thanks again Kari I really do appreciate the tutorial link you have given me, and I intend to try and follow it!

Why I at all asked a few more questions in regards to Dre@ms' post is because it talked about getting Windows Mail also from a Vista machine over to a W7 one, and that's something I am going to do as well. Wanted to check it out just in case...

Thanks all of you for your quick responses!
