I have an HP Touchsmart 300 all-in-one bought new in 11/09 . Yesterday , for the first time since I bought the PC , I ripped some music files ( mp3 ) to a CDR . It worked , but as soon as the burned CD-R popped out the computer froze up solid with both the Media Player window and My Computer window still on screen . Cursor would not move . Message ( in Japanese ) popped up a minute later saying the My Library database was damaged but there was no problem with files or player . Had to do a re-boot . Haven't tried to burn another CD-R yet . Any idea of what could have happened . I've been trying to contact HP all day and cannot get through .

I use Windows Media Player all the time at school ( I teach ) to burn CD-Rs and never had a problem . Like I said , it was the first time I did this on my home computer - it burnt the CD - but the computer froze immediately after the disc popped out . Still can't get an answer at HP - 6 hours !

Hi sushiman,

Since windows says the database is damaged, try clearing the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:

Exit WMP.
Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.
Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File menu (do not delete the folders that are in this folder).
Restart WMP.

WMP will automatically rebuild the database.

If this does not help, clear the WMP database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

Exit WMP.
Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.
Select the Media Player folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.
Restart WMP.

It can happen for any no. of reasons.

Another thing I would suggest, before trying out the steps I posted, go to Services (Click on Start button, type "Servics.msc" without quotes) and stop all WMP related services particularly the WMP network sharing service since those might lock the database.

Well , while I was at work my wife finally got in touch with HP . They advised that we back date the computer to a day before the trouble happened . Sorry , I can't translate everything they said in Japanese . I haven't tried to burn another CDR yet , but will soon and will report what happens . Thanks all for your support .
