I dont get the build numbers still despite all the threads I have read.

It would seem that 7106 is newer than 7077, but I read that is not the case?

The 7077 I DL'ed and installed did not perform well at all. I just installed 7106 and it has icons that 7077 did not, and it is blazing fast compared to even 7068 I am running on another drive.

7106 seems newer and faster to me...

another strange thing about the 7106 I installed, it does not have the eval water mark in the lower right corner.

The EULA shows RC at the bottom..

I dont get the build numbers still despite all the threads I have read.

From Paul Thurrotts Supersite:

..recently, the (Windows client) team forked its build tree to accommodate separate RC (release candidate) and RTM (release to manufacturing) branches. The RC branch follows the existing 70xx build numbers, while the RTM branch has jumped to 71xx. These builds are kept in lockstep, so that build 7106....corresponds to RC build 7076.

Icrontic » Charting Windows 7 development

You have undoubtedly noticed that all the builds up until this point have come from the 70xx.0.winmain line, so you’re wondering where this 7106 build came from, and you’re probably wondering if it’s better than 7077. Here’s the hard fact: It’s not

Build 7075.winmain (April 1) = 7105.winmain (April 4)
Build 7076.winmain (April 2) = 7106.winmain (April 8)
Build 7077.winmain_win7rc (April 4) = 7107.winmain (April 9)

well since 71XX are rtm builds, do they have any requirement which build are meant for which brand of pc? for instance, acer, hp, futjitsu, dell?

I got this 7106 off mininova... it is really fast for some reason, and it has stuff that 7068 did not have in screen savers and icons... maybe it is a diffferent leak. No watermark in the lower right corner is nice too. I dont see an expiration date in the 'about info' ....

No watermark and no expiration date.Doesn't that scream "tampered with"?You don't have to be tech savvy to figure out what's wrong just use a little common sense.

Well, it would not be beyond a 'leak' to happen in 2 different builds. For some reason the 7077 build I got locked up a few times, seemed really slow, and just did not feel right. I have been on 7000 since its release, so I am very confident of the feel it suppose to have. 7057 is what I am actually running as primary with all my office applications and reading and posting in this forum. The 7106 build is sitting on a drive that is only a 320gig, so not much room to build a future with that drive. I just wanted to get some feedback on why this build I got from mininova was marked 7106, and then installed really nice, was clean on the inside, and runs so great before I put it on the primary drive only to have to build all my applications on it.

Also, if it is a tampered with version... which version is it? Is there a way I can tell what previous version was upgraded to this tampered 7106?

By everything i've been told it's actually older than build 7077.People claim it's actually 7076.What i do know for a fact is it's a modified version of the Chinese that was all over the place.Last thing you want with an OS is one that is heavily modified by a 3rd party, unless you trust everybody but i wouldn't.

My friend said that Microsoft put some post on the .net framework sight or whatever, I have no idea what its called to be honest but you have to be a member to read it so I can't post a link.

Anyways there was a thread on there that the 71XX build of 7 was Chinese modified and made from 7068...7077 is the current latest leaked build.

A few observations about that download on Mininova and on the latest supposed clean version on Demonoid.

The one from Mininova was most likely an enhanced Chinese version BECAUSE it had the zn-ch language folder still in the installation files. During the late stages of installation it also asked you to make a choice between English and Chinese. The SETUP file with that download did not have a valid certificate. It runs very well and there are no traces of Chinese after making the choice. All file versions are 6.1.7106 and it was built on the 6.1.7077 RC files. (6.1.7077 RC files are what is in the installation files)

The newest one on Demonoid is also likely built around the Chinese version but does not include the zn-ch language folder. It does still ask for a choice between English and Chinese at the same point of installation. The SETUP file DOES HAVE A VALID CERTIFICATE. Again file versions are 6.1.7106 built on the 6.1.7077 RC files.

Neither of these installations has the evaluation watermark and this fact leads me to believe that someone in Microsoft has put the thing out. Neither of them can have the Windows version forced onto the screen by editing the registry - I did try.

Long story short - these may be manipulated but it has been done by someone who knew exactly what they were doing and 6.1.7106 runs just as well as 6.1.7077 and maybe just a hair faster.

By the way, there are 2 on Demonoid right now - one contains a RAR file instead of an ISO - I haven't fooled with that one as it may contain some malware.

Thank you for that in depth information on the mininova one. I have been a tester for Tier 3 before, and I noticed a different feel about this version. It just snaps on my wireless connection compared to 7057 which is what I am running right now as I type this.

I am going to give it a shot on my primary drive.

did you have the expiration date in that 7106 build ? I did not see one.

I am closing this thread because Build 7106, whatever way you look at it has been hacked and I don't think anyone should be downloading it, build 7077 is a newer build anyway so there is no point.
