My headets are picking up radio interference.

At first it was my Razer Carcharias headsets ($89.99) that would start to pick up a faint radio signal. I could hear this talk show through my headsets while listening to music or gaming on my PC. I tried using a different pair of headsets, so I used my Fatal1ty headsets from Creative Studios and my iPod earbuds - same problem with both.

Are there any solutions to this problem? They operate in 20-20,000Hz.

for now i think i can turn down my volume so i can barely hear it.. but the problem still persists. And there's no instances of this problem solved anywhere on google (at least from my previous searches). Lots of people seem to notice this, but no one seems to have any viable fixes. Besides tin foil - which I've tried a few minutes ago - to no avail.

With the soundblaster card removed, is the problem gone?

sry i wasn't more clear on that post. no, none of my attempted solutions have worked so far:

1 - removing soundcard.
2 - trying a new headset
3 - using tinfoil to "wrap" the line-in and line-out / to "wrap" the actual headsets and earbuds
4 - moving my computer to try and avoid the signal's path

so temporarily ive lowered the volume on both my headset and through the Volume Mixer ... the interference is still present, but at least it's less noticeable (though still irritating)

w1rex, can you fill in your system specs? Do you have any other peripheral such a TV tuner?

You see, the headsets can't actually pick up that FM signal, demodulate it and convert to audio, you need a tuner for that. I thought your sound card could be picking something, but that is also not very likely.

I remembered my brother-in-law had a similar problem and I think we solved it by changing his tuner's configuration (it was a while ago).

And, can you send a picture of you wearing the tin foil wrapped headphones? Just kidding, but I did have a laugh imagining it! :D

I had this problem too. I wasn't sure wether it was a virus or my adapter picking up. Wasn't sure but then I found out it was a virus that was doing something. So I got rid of it and problem was gone.

It could be spyware/malware/adware so scan your computer with this trusted program.

no , sry i guess not. Could it be my neighbors? Maybe they rearranged some furniture (and electronics) in their parlor.. and for some reason are now sending signals through the wall -.- ?

I am really annoyed by this issue. Every 5 minutes the talkshow plays its little jingle "Na na na na the Dave Marrow show!"

oh wow, thank you. I SHOULD SCAN IMMEDIATELY.
This makes so much sense! My mouse (Razer Lachesis) has been freezing lately, so bad that I have to unplug and replug it into the USB slot. And i've only had the device for less than 6 months. I'll do a complete scan of my comp with malwarebytes, avg, and spybot s&d right away!

I'll let u guys know how it goes. Thanks for now though -

Guess I didn't have a virus problem. By this point, I wish I did so it could easily be solved.

w1rex,
Please find the time to update your system specs. That's under "UserCP" in that top line of the sevenforums page.

You can go back to AVG, but I very strongly recommend installing and using
Microsoft Security Essentials.

1. Download Microsoft Security Essentials. http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
2. Disconnect from the Internet.
3. Disable your present antivirus software.
4. Remove your present antivirus software.
5. Install and run the Microsoft Security Essentials. Quick Scan (remove any bad guys)

7. Update Microsoft Security Essentials.
8. Run Microsoft Security Essentials quick scan again.(remove any bad guys)

Did I ever get an answer to my question about how far you are from the radio/tv station transmitter?

Now let's assume you have a mischievous neighbor. Have you tried at hours where the neighbor is gone or sleeping?

hrm so you're saying that MSE counts as an antivirus program itself? In that case i'll uninstall AVG.

i'm fairly sure the local stations are a ways from my locale, though I do live near the city. It's just that this problem only started (or rather, I've only noticed the interference) recently. If I were in the vicinity of a tower, I don't see why I've never experienced it before :/

and I use my computer 24/7, during the AM hours I still receive transmissions.
