Hi,

Would anyone please know if the Product ID's for OEM versions of Windows 7 have some info in the Product ID that indicates the country or continent that the version of Windows 7 relates to.

The reason I ask is that I am having some problems getting an activation to proceed, it aborts before submitting the request to microsoft for the activation. If my selected regional settings from the installation are not coherent with some type of information in the Product ID then could this be the cause of this?

I am using a Dell reinstallation disk on a Dell laptop and there was no request for a Product ID in the installation and the Product ID is visible via control panel/system with the message that I have 3 days to activate.

Is the installation disk the one that came with the Dell laptop or from a different one?

Its a different installation disk. However, the installation proceeded OK without requesting a CoA and seems to be fully functional. When I go to activate online there is a popup that blocks this taking place and I think that this is due to my selection of UK / English in regional settings with the disk origin possibly from some other European country?

The product key that I have is for the Windows Vista that was shipped with the machine. I was trying to use a Dell Windows 7 disk as an upgrade so my key will not work.

Normally, when installing windows using a Dell install disk on a Dell machine there is no CoA required and the Product ID is automatically loaded in the install ready for online activation later.

I think my problem is that the Dell disk I used for the install is from another European country to the UK or Ireland? If I had used a Dell disk with country of origin UK or Ireland then I think it would have been OK, hence my original question about regions and Product ID's.
