Ridiculous Lag by wmp300n

Hey all,

So this has stumped me.

Over the last couple days, my adapter has been acting up and it would drop the connection, and I would be unable to reconnect no matter what. I think I fixed that by changing the channel on my router from 1 to 9, and it hasn't dropped since (not yet anyways).

Now, I am experiencing a ton of connection lag. I tried to play L4D2 today, and it lagged so bad it looked like I had an FPS of like 20 or less (sometime frozen at times), and the same thing on GuildWars, the ping packets would hit 4000milliseconds.

I am at a loss as to what is causing this. I do not believe it is my router or internet as every other computer in the house is fine.

Any help?

EDIT: Loading sites (this one) is also affected, and is MUCH slower than normal.

Have you done a test ping?

Test this if you haven't: Ping from comp to AP, let it run for 2 minutes, see if you got any RTO.

Glancing at the reviews for your adaptor over at Newegg I wouldn't expect that one to work very well with Windows 7. Some of the worst reviews I've ever seen...wow.

The odd thing is that sometimes it works fine, other times it crashes. I would rather not have to replace it, as I would only need the adapter for about 3 months before going hardwired.... But I will consider it.

zzz2496 I did ping 192.168.1.1 from command prompt, was that what you meant?

Most of those complaints mirrored yours exactly so I wouldn't expect too much from that one. You would think a driver update might fix that problem but you would have to look around for it and get lucky I suspect.

EDIT: Nevermind, I already did that.

In case you want to pursue this more, this thread at Technet tells you how to fix the problem by going to the Broadcom driver BCM4329, instead of using the default Windows 7 driver which seems to cause problems.

This problem is talked about more in the link below. Seems to be a problem between the default driver and the router being used, hard to say which.

It might also help to go into the advanced settings for the adaptor and adjust the IBSS mode to wireless A/B/G/N mode. A firmware update might also be required.

According to the link you might also need to update the firmware on your router.

I can't test any of this stuff out so I have to go by what fixed this problem for others. Hope it works.

I might do that, but it will have to be at a later time because I need internet now.
