Big Mistake... Hibernate computer whilst shutting down.

Hi guys.
Last night, I tried to shut down my computer. It was taking ages, programs were still up and running, and no 'Force shut down' window came up. So I became impatient, and through the start menu I clicked on hibernate, and it did. This morning, it resumed itself, but instead of it going onto the logon screen like I expected, it went straight to the desktop and had the 'Force shut down' window up. I quickly clicked cancel, and everything seemed fine. Then I realized Windows 7 was in classic theme. I went to the personilization menu, only to find out my themes were all greyed out and I couldn't click on any of them. After this, action center kept on saying I should start windows security services. I clicked 'Turn on now' but it came up with something like this: Windows could not start this process or service. Please contact your administrator... etc. And to my horror none of my vital services would start up... network adapter, display driver, RPS server for the battery and my screen brightness was limited.

The first thing I thought I would do was try sfc /scannow command. But when I entered it in elevated cmd, it said the Windows repair services could not be started. So I couldn't do any scans within Windows. Booting into all three safe modes, none of the services would start up. Currently, I am running chkdsk and it is taking forever on stage 4/5 (NTFS). If it is not fixed then, I will boot up from my install disk and run sfc /scannow then (I forgot I could do this until now). I am going to wait for any other suggestions from you people, and if it can't be solved, it has going to be a clean install and will take me weeks to reinstall everything I had.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have to do homework on my laptop as well

I don't think I've ever experienced something of this magnitude. So, sorry if my suggestion sounds a little generic.

Have you tried creating another user account?

No... I'll give it a go once my chkdsk has finished.

No, I didn't mention that in my original post. If I did have a restore, I'd lose some homeworks I had to print out and some GFX work as well

I forgot about windows.old folder when you clean installed... I thought it just formatted and wiped out all my documents... Is it alright if I shut down my computer now while chkdsk is running? I don't want to mess up my lappy anymore than a have to...

With a repair install you won't lose any data. A Windows old folder will not be created either. It just repairs system files.

Just to be safe, can you get to the files you want to save, homework etc., and save it somewhere before you try anything else?

External HD, or memory stick.

If the sfc /scannow doesn't work I would try, as Tews suggested, system restore first.

If no luck, then as both Tews and JK suggested, a repair install. One of these should work for you.

P.S.
Be patient, let sfc /scannow run and hopefully finish, another 30 min. to an hour to be safe.

sfc wouldn't even start. No services would start either.
I made yet another mistake just now - before reinstalling 7, i accidentally formatted my OS partition with all my stuff on it But its up and running thank goodness. I'll just have to remake all my work

Uh oh. Just typed in the product key from the cd package, and it says the product key can only be used on an upgrade installation not clean install

This makes a good case scenario for drive imaging.

LilDomii, see my earlier post in this thread, Macrium reflect is a very good free image backup program.

Highly recommend using it when you get this going again.

EDIT: I don't have any spare blank DVD's/CD's and i didn't have enough free spcae left for a separate partition to put my backups on

That's too bad.

It's a very nice program to have. You make a backup and can restore it anytime, giving you exactly the same OS and/or data you had on that day, no re-activation, no re-installation of OS or programs, no loss of personal files and data.
