Well, I am really tired of spending ages looking through all my shortcuts at my desktop, so I was wondering if there is a good gadget that is specially designed for launching applications?

Y'know, something where I can drag a shortcut onto it then click it whenever I want so that it opens?

Alright, well I downloaded Circle Dock before, but I accidentally clicked "Hide" and now I can't use it...and when I try to uninstall it it says that I need to close the program first.

Any idea on how I can unhide it?

It should be on your system trey . First click on the red bordered button to show the system trey , and locate Circle dock there.

try closeing from task manager under processes tab, or try to "unhide" or "show"

EDIT: try CleanDesktop v1.1 to get it back to show (havent tested neither ones so dont complain if ur cpu goes KABOOM!!)

AppLauncher is excellent provided you have a sidebar a la Vista (can be tweaked). But it only works in 32bit. Another one I use is Rocket Dock which works very well. For large numbers of shortcuts I also use the toolbars - see picture.

WMC Remote Interface?

Are there any launcher type programs that are compatible with a media center remote? I would like to boot to my desktop and be able to launch XBMC, Hulu, Boxee, etc with my remote control.

Thanks for the input guys, I will make sure to try out "Launchy" when I get back home. Unfortunately, "Rocket Dock" doesn't seem to suit my style, but a friend of mine highly recommended "Rainmeter" to me, and it looks relatively good.

Can somebody give me an opinion on Rainmeter?

I guess I'll pick this topic up. (some Rainmeter info below)

Rainmeter is a very versatile tool. You can do quite a bit with it. You can customize it to no end, so it can fit well with your desktop. And a lot of that stuff can be made to open a link to a website, or run an app, or open a specific file, or a folder...

So you could make an image of something you wanted on your desktop that, when clicked, could open anything on your system (provided you have the program to open that file). And it's very easy to make it link to something.
You can find many skins for Rainmeter on DeviantArt. Just search for it, and you'll get many themes.

My personal opinion of Rainmeter is that it's an excellent tool, and it works very well for many things (opening files, system monitoring, getting info from the net, or just making your desktop look good to all your buddies). I suggest trying it and using some of them themes on DeviantArt to get a feel for how well it could be used. And you can mix and match themes you like, which is a pretty neat thing.
