More people downloaded Office 2010 beta than Windows 7 RC.

It’s now official, Office 2010 is bigger than Windows 7, at least as far as the sheer number of downloads of the pre-release testing Builds is concerned. On the day of Office 2010’s commercial launch, Microsoft confirmed officially that the latest iteration of the productivity suite was downloaded in excess of nine million times. As of today, June 15th, 2010, customers around the world can purchase Office 2010 via retail outlets or online shops.

Microsoft was little shy about applauding the early success of Office 2010. Launched in Beta stage in November 2009, Office 2010 has generated an immense amount of interest from early adopters. The Redmond company is, in this regard, entitled to hope that the over nine million downloads of Office 2010 Beta will translate into strong sales. By comparison, according to the software giant’s statistics, Windows 7 was downloaded over eight million times ahead of RTM.

I just think it comes down to most computer users can't really be bothered installing the OS from the ground up to beta test. We are the minority. :geek:

Is Office 2010 any better than office 2007,and therefore is it worth paying for the upgrade?

I have used 2010 for a while now, and I love it. I HATE office 2007, so for me it would be worth it (I didn't have to pay, which made it a no brainer)

What are the differences between the 2? In office 2007 I don'tlike the way youhave the options at the top of the screen, I much prefer the drop down menus. Are they menu's the same as 2007 or have they gone back to the old one's?

The lay out is similar to office 2007. Microsoft will never go back to the drop down menus. So if you want to keep drop down menus use an office released before 2007.

When you consider that this is for multiple operating systems (including apple) then I think there is a much larger base for this to target.

Would love someone to explain to me why everyone hates the ribbon. I love it, everything is so much easier for me to find.

And yeah, 2010 is much better than 2007, especially if you have 64-bit Windows.

I have Windows 7 64-bit, so what differences will I see with Office 2010.

TBH I don't see any difference between a 32-bit OS and a 64-OS.

The only difference that I have seen is that some software will not work on a 64-bit OS and in reality it has actually made my PC less user freindly and usefull.

With 4GB of RAM, the difference is less, but one of the reasons you may not have noticed much improvement with a 64-bit OS might be that none of your programs are 64-bit. 64-bit allows the program to use more RAM, and thus run faster. A friend of mine has a laptop with 64-bit OS and 8GB of RAM, and Outlook 2010 (64-bit) runs several times faster for him than Outlook 2007 (32-bit).

So basically my PC will run much faster, and the reason why I aint seeing no advantage is because my current software is all 32 bit.

Well thanks very much for the info.

So apart from the fact that it runs faster what else does it do better than 2007, does it have any new features or is it easier to use?

It still doesn't.

Y'know you can customize the layout of the ribbon right? Anyway, I think it's easier than digging through an endless tree of submenus...
