I have finally managed to install build 7100 on a clean partition (installation took forever...).
Now that I have installed some software, it doesn't boot up completely anymore. It presents my desktop wallpaper and my single gadget and then stops. I can use the mouse, but I cannot open a RUN-window with windowskey+R.

- Any troubleshooting ideas?

I have disabled the login, so it should boot straight to the desktop. I can start in safe mode.
Installed Programs: Office 2007, Nero 9, AVAST!, Adobe Acrobat 9, KMPlayer, CoreAVC, DivX 7, DynDNS updater, ffdshow, haali mkv splitter, Irfan view, Take Command LE, Firefox, Thunderbird, UltraIso, RealVNC, Logitech Setpoint, OODefrag 11.5

- Any known incompatibilities?

Thanks for the tips. I will first try the clean boot procedure, maybe I can figure out which program caused to problem.

Btw, when the computer is idle for a while, I have to login - but "present login screen" is disabled in the screensaver configuration. What logs me out?

Hi caid602, I'd run a virus scan on that machine if I was you.

Other Info
I use a Magnum.
I ran a defrag now from my Vista partition - doesn't help.
Now I am doing virus scan (AVIRA).
During booting the harddisk seems to continue nibbling files - I suspect NCQ as the source of the problem, but I cannot turn NCQ off in the safe mode.
My mainboard is an Asus P5N-e SLI with the Nvidia NForce 650 chipset and a JMicron controller.

OK, Problem solved. Reason was most stupid. Windows switched into dual-display mode. On HDMI is my projector, which is normally off. After rebooting, the Projector became screen 1 with the taskbar and the monitor was screen 2.
