Never been to Heaven....
I went to rip some CD's today and noticed my DVD R/W Has vanished from "my Computer". I can go into device manager and see it, but it has a yellow exclamation point next to it. I tried to update the driver but windows says it has the best driver already. I uninstalled the driver and rebooted to the same thing. Any thoughts? I am realy hoping my drive didn't die :( I checked the BIOS and it knows it is there as well. If you need further info just ask.

Thanks in advance

Geeve

Edit: I have ran my antivirus and malwarebytes and neither have found anything

Is it SATA or with the IDE cable?

Mayby you can change it to another SATA port. I had it once and then I noticed that I had connected the cable to one of the 3rth party SATA controllers and windows didn't recogniced it when I installed the drivers.

1) Try uninstalling the drivers in device manager. Reboot.

2) Unplug Data & power cables, restart, shutdown, plug cables back in check BIOS.

When you say it was working earlier this week did you add something to the system during that time? Software/Hardware??? If so, can you try a system restore to a time before the changes and see what happens?

Let me know.

PS theog has a point, but I would do number one first than see what happens before trying number two. However don't forget about my question above.

I uninstalled and rebooted still the same problem. I will try number 2 here in a second.

I rolled back and got no where, the only thing I have installed is a drum looping program and it was working just fine. Other than that it was just the .NET update from tuesday, I have done no hardware changes. I am really perplexed :(

Do you have any recording software installed? Ex Nero, Roxio? If so you might trying uninstalling it that reinstalling it again. I had to do this once in Vista. Bit weird but it worked.

Edit you could try this fix but it requires some registry work... My cd drive wont work [Solved] - xpcman's post.

This did it!!!! Thank you soooo much. I came to find out that my friends teenage boys had tried to install Roxio, when it failed they tried to unistall and get rid of the evidence. Needless to say I chewed them out and they are now mowing my yard as me and thier Dad watch and drink a beer :) Thank you again, rep coming your way!

That's the famous upper and lower filters issue - been around for years.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461

Often caused by gigantic burning suites, like Nero and Roxio, apparently.
