Windows XP to Vista - Better for gaming?

Basically I'm at a stalemate with myself. I know well about Vista's issues - but what I'm wondering is from a gaming point of view. I'm currently running Windows XP Professional SP2 (my Win7 disc is 64 bit only and won't run on this rig 'till I upgrade the CPU =( ) and essentially I'm wondering - is Vista any better for gaming? For the record, I've an ATi Radeon HD 4350 graphics card.

how come your windows 7 disc is 64bit only? i've got two discs in my package (but only one key)...

my advice is to stick with xp for now. vista will give you access to directx10 (for what it's worth), but your graphics card isn't the most powerful.

any reason why you aren't on service pack 3?

OEM comes with 1 DVD.

Yeah I figured that about DX10. As for SP3, where I am theres no cheap broadband package available yet so untill then, I cant get it. :/

From a purely gaming standpoint you are probably better off with XP than with Vista. Vista needs more resources than XP. Just for the record: There are really no issues or problems with Vista at this point in time. I run a couple of Vista and a couple of Win7 systems and find less problems in Vista than in Win7.
