My desktop icons load perfectly the first time they appear after a system boot. However, as the system continues loading stuff, they dissapear and reappear again unskinned... Is there a fix to this problem? Do I not have enough system resources? I updated to windows 7 from vista on my old gateway computer...

Check graphic card in device manager (type device manger in search). Make sure you have the most up to date drivers. Look for any yellow warning markers to indicate corrupted drivers.

Try with your AntiVirus turned off. WILL DO.
Run antivirus scan i WILL...
Download and run malwarebytes. I DID AND AM RUNNING A SCAN RIGHT NOW...
Did you do a clean install (did you reinstall your programs)? YES I DID.
I am running a malware scan right now, afterwards I will reboot with antivirus turned off. Altho I run an automatic antivirus scan everyday automatically...
Thank you for your prompt response.

Seems like the icons loaded better with the antivirus turned off (I use AVG)
Seems I take just about under three mins either way to boot up (I measured it with Speedboot racer)

Gee, I was all set to answer the Defender question and I had to go to the next page and I was hit with this. If MSE is making it worse, put back your old A/V. Defender would be shut off with MSE, as it is no longer needed. Its function is taken over by MSE.

I booted up today, and it seemed that the icons did not disappeared at all, But I booted in over 3 mins! Not good... I pride myself in taking good care of my systems, cleanning, defragging, etc... I will review those 2 links see if I can learn something new...
Perhaps preventing programs from starting up with windows will do the trick?

PS. I decided to keep Microsoft Security program for a while see how it does... Thanks again for the suggestion... Desktop icons seem more stable now...
