Crysis crashing issue

Hello again seven forums!

After you guys have fixed all my issues so far i figure this one should right up your alley. Just installed Crysis into my machine and it ran like a dream. High graphics, 50 - 60 fps. Fun times had by all. Im in the first level "Recovery" and I am right at the point where you break down the door and enter to find the chinese girl as a hostage. When the mini cut scene happens, the game freezes. There is no looping music, the sound keeps playing for about 5 seconds then the screen goes black and windows tells me that Crysis had to shut down. After this there are two scenarios:

Scenario 1: I am playing full screen at 1440 x 900 and the game goes into shut down mode. It will freeze, tell me that Crysis had to shut down due to a critical error, then my computer blue screens and restarts.

Scenario 2: I am playing in windowed mode and everything that happens above will happen anyway except the blue screen. Windows will tell me that my graphics card had to shut down but that it recovered. The screen gets a little snowy lookin' and everything appears to run fine.

Notes to make about the what i did to combat this: GPU Never went above 60 degrees Celsius, fan was ran between 55% and 100% and made no difference. Card is not overclocked. CPU is not overclocked. tried at all different ranges of video quality and still nothing helped. My little brother has the exact same everything on his computer except a different mobo and decreased CPU speed and RAM and his runs perfectly well. I have tried two different drivers on my GPU and neither work (191.XXX stock and 196.XXX).

If so.... read on....

Error - Driver Stopped Responding And Recovered (ATI) or Display Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding (Nvidia) – Do any type of search on these errors and you will get hundreds of hits, even here. This issue started out in Vista and is now seen in Windows 7. As you see, it affects both card manufactures. There are many theories on the causes, as well as solutions, to this problem, but no singular fix seems to work for all. While one fix might work for some, others find they don't work at all. I will however suggest you look at…

-a- Overclocking – If your system is over clocked, chances are that you card is as well. Or, you may be simply overclocking the card by itself. Either way, back off and see what happens.

-b- Overheating – The card could simply be overheating from a faulty or low running fan, to the thermo past on the heat sink wearing out or being inadequate for the job. Inspect the video card and insure everything is in good working order and that there are no loose parts.

-c- Case Cooling – If your case is small and cramped or has inadequate ventilation or fans, well, not only will the case get hot, but so will the components inside, including the CPU and GPU, which puts out enough heat on their own!!! Plus overclocking also causes heat!!! Something to think about.

-d- Power supply - Many of today's GPU's require at least a 450 watt power supply. Is your the power supply adequate for the job? Check with the card manufacture. Also, If the card requires a power connection (4-pin connector) double check to make sure it's connected!

Outside of the above mentioned steps, the best way to go about this one unfortunately is through trial and error. However there have been quite a few people, including me, who have reported that replacing the video card solved the problem. Again, something to think about.

i don't believe it is any of these issues. cpu and gpu both never go above 60 degrees and the power supply running at 750w. im possibly missing something but pretty sure ive gone over all this. like i said no OC in this rig and the 900 antec is pretty spacious inside with pretty good ventilation. so ive checked all the before mentioned and still no go. thanks for the information though, it gave me something to go off of.

what error does the blue screen say?

I don't use an Nvidia card in my desktop but I use an Nvidia gpu in my laptop and I thought the latest Nvidia drivers were the 256 or 257 series WHQL

since you said you only used the 191 and 196 series drivers it wasn't clear if you tried using the latest drivers to see if made any difference

I have noticed that drivers will get corrupt easily so what I do if something like this happens is, defrag my machine, uninstall the video and audio drivers, uninstall the PhysX drivers as well, restart in safe mode, run ccleaner to get rid of any driver instances on my registry, restart once more in full mode and run a new clean install of video and audio drivers with full admin rights.

Remember, just because you are the admin of your pc does not necessarily means you are running with high or elevated admin rights. Go to the file where you donwloaded or have your drivers, right click on the file and use "Run as Administrator".

Also, make sure you have the latest patch for the game.

i have seen a lot of issues coming out of the most recent drivers. looking on other forums and such people said that the 196 or 197 were pretty solid so i figured i would try those. i guess the next step would be to try updating all the way. but then the question in my head that pops up is why my little brothers computer is working just fine? but maybe im just unlucky.

You need the Crysis patches, 1.2 and 1.2.1, google for them, they can be found all over the internet. Also Crysis doesn't play worth a darn in Windowed mode, don't expect it to work there.

I wouldn't use this logic as your measuring stick... 2 cars from the same make, model & year will not drive the same.

Build two similar (same components) computers and one of them will be better or behave better than the other.

At the end of the day, you'll find that this is just "Trial & Error" but the easiest part is that... installing and uninstalling drivers is very simple and all you wasted is time.

okidoke. im back from vacation with new light on the subject. updating the game did help, i can now play the game. a screen flicker problem has started now along with other things.

1.) Cannot play without running as admin.
2.) Cannot play if I try to run it in dx9 in an attempt to get rid of screen flicker
3.) Most importantly, screen flickering. on objects such as trees, rocks, animals. Also on shadowed objects.

things I have done to combat these three problems:

1.) uninstalled and reinstalled: no change
2.) played at all different setting ranges: problem gets worse as I go lower in settings.
3.) tried 5 different drivers: best one so far is the one I have on right now.
4.) set my video card to stock settings: it comes OC so I put it back down to regular settings with evga precision
5.) did a raindance while eating a sandwich: consequently it rained, I satisfied my hunger, no change with crysis.

I'm at a loss for any other options. thanks for being so patient with my questions and I hope you guys might be able to help me out with this.

You are welcome about the info on the required crysis patches. The flickering is pretty standard for this game. I only seem to get a very small amount of flickering when I play, nothing worth complaining about in my case. It certainly does not show up in those screen pictures. I always use the bin64 bit version of the game using DX10. You can get to that version by going into the Crysis game files.

Other than turning down the game settings there is no cure for the flickering.
