Windows 7 SP1 Public Beta Released

A lot of the updates aren't ones that have been received yet thru WU.

It's been widely known this SP1 wouldn't give any major changes or new features since it's first announcement.

all that media/fun stuff is reserved for the windows live package.

microsoft think they can update faster if they remove it from the actual os - that's why there's not even an email client in 7.

so this beta patch is just a collection of the updates we've already got?

i'm underwhelmed. :sarc:

...but in a way it's good - it shows there was nothing that really needed urgent fixing.

must have been due to all those beta and leak testers...

I know--I have some apps from the Live Essentials. New Movie Maker and DVD Maker still suck though.

I actually prefer to run the old one from Vista on 7.

Any guesstimates on how many MB this service pack will be? Or when it will come out of Beta and be released as a regular Windows Update? I can't remember that far back to XP and the release dates for SP1. All I remember is how large SP2 was. Old age is rapidly affecting my one remaining brain cell.

That's what I got too, it must have removed a bunch of stuff because I've got an extra 4+ gb now.
Other than that I don't see anything obvious yet.

Before I read your size confirmation post, I assumed each patch weighting about 1Mb. As there are 472, according to the XLS list on Microsoft site, hey, my personal guesstimate of 472Mb was in a good range

Just installed it and it was 55.3MB. So far.. no problems

IDK about anyone else, but I'm more than a bit disappointed in the fact that no new features are being introduced.

Something new for audio/video editing? DVD authoring? I mean, come on. Movie Maker is worse than in Vista and DVD Maker is so shallow.

you have a good point, Microsoft should think of that, even the new movie maker that is installed with aint that much an eye catcher! hope they do extreme make overs in the next windows.

If it contains all updates why would they be releasing it? in the end it will be the same size the updates are, so instead of saying: OMG I have 100 update that are 500MB, people will say instead: It's a good thing only one update cuz it's a huge one 500MB!!!

Think of it this way. What happens if God forbid, in 6 months time your windows goes completely under, and you have to reinstall? Well if you have SP1 Slipstreamed into your Windows disk, or SP1 saved somewhere, you don't need to download it, or any of the updates up to SP1, you can just install it, and your good to go.

Think of it this way. What happens if God forbid, in 6 months time your windows goes completely under, and you have to reinstall? Well if you have SP1 Slipstreamed into your Windows disk, or SP1 saved somewhere, you don't need to download it, or any of the updates up to SP1, you can just install it, and your good to go.

Even if it's not slipstreamed, it would be beneficial to have all them rolled up into one.

My gripe has long been the fact that no new features for the average user are included.
