Just installed on Core I3 laptop. No problems. System seems a little "snappier" so far. And wow, already an update to the SP!

Is this just a accumulation of patches and updates for Windows 7? I don't see any need for a major overhaul (like there was with Windows Vista SP1).

I'm not sure why anyone expected there to be any new or amazing feature in this SP. It mainly is to trick the stingy, I won't use it til it's SP1, IT departments into migrating to Windows 7. Although for Hyper-V the Dynamic Memory allocation is pretty sweet.

I'm not sure why anyone expected there to be any new or amazing feature in this SP.

Because a lot of times there are new or significant changes. Windows XP SP2 brought on a lot of changes. Windows Vista SP1 was a very big stepping stone that made a swarm of changes.

The first Service Pack for Microsoft's new money maker and what does it bring? The only thing I have read is related to Windows Server 2008 and VDI. So it's pretty much a waste for the home owner, which is a majority of the Windows 7 users at this point.

There wasn't really any need for new features in this SP. XP needed new features added in SP2/SP3, before those XP didn't even have native WiFi support (AFAIK). Vista needed a lot of changes in SP1 just to make it a viable OS. Windows 7 is basically perfect right now, so there wasn't much call for major updates. I think Windows 7 needs native Blu-ray movie support by now, but MS seems intent making everyone deal with Cyberlink PowerDVD and their "MoovieLive" crap, so my guess is we won't see that feature until Windows 8.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 beta public available

Microsoft announced on Monday that the first Windows 7 Service Pack 1 public beta is now available.
Downloaded it yesterday. Its ISO is 1.28gb in size. I gather some have installed it and all is okay. What version of hardware did it install on?

Any idea what it adds or fixes in Win7 64-bit? Seems like a big deal as Server 2008 SP2 but not much for Win 7, right?

Regards,
- - Phil

Windows XP did have wireless support, just not WPA/WPA2. AFAIK it supported WEP out of the box. For WPA/WPA2 you need Windows XP SP2 with patch KB893357 installed or Windows XP SP3.

As far as Blu-Ray support out of the box, that's a HDCP license thing. Not going to happen.

Win 7 sp1 and Server 2008 R2 sp1 and one in the same. Microsoft incorporated both into one release.

Exactly ... I wasn't saying anything different was I?
I was asking it what it does for Win 7 (SINCE I read that it does big stuff for Server 2008!)?

Here is my question. Do I need to worry about installing SP1 right now? Can I just wait until the final version comes out? I plan on doing it eventually, but feel that if there is no major improvement, I might as well wait.

Not really, I can't speak for everyone but I just wanted to see if there would be

any noticeable difference, and I haven't really. If you don't want to install, you're not

missing anything.

Well it was only around 20 MB's to download. I signed up and accepted the agreement a few days ago. I lost my download after it was only downloading at 3Kbps ... then I find it in Windows Important updates  I have no clue what happened there. It also doesn't say "Evaluation" in the lower right hand corner, like when I Beta test SP2 for Vista.
