Not to mention the big lawsuit that happened back in the 90's right here in the US. Including MSE would just cause another lawsuit or two.

That doesn't seem related at all to what you identified in your original post. There is a lot of malware that utilizes an autorun.ini file on a removable drive.

Best option, as you have done, is to disable AutoPlay altogether.

In fact it was the exact same situation that I experienced with MSE. I put my flash drive into the USB port to copy a few files and MSE popped up the alert, when it was simply the basic flash driver that enables autorun that it flagged. Apparently I'm not the only one who felt that it was most likely a false positive, although you stated that it is not. It really doesn't matter, because I decided to delete MSE.

Why don't MS include MSE in Windows 8, seems a bit silly you have to be online to download it and where do the majority of viruses come from?...

So the EU doesn't sue them again? They were sued, of all things, for including a web browser. How is a person supposed to get to the web to download an alternative browser? Instead they forced them to advertise their competitors products.

Nowhere else have I seen that happen. You don't see Toyota saying, "Here's our Camry. If you don't want it let us point you to Honda, Hyundai and Nissan."

What I don't know is why Microsoft moved mail, additional parental controls, etc to Windows Live. It makes zero sense.

Hi, JonM33. It makes sense if you consider world-wide corporate customers. In addition, by making those features part of a separate, optional package, people can select some or all of Windows Live Essentials to install on their computer.

Here is how it works. If M/S put MSE on there operating system there will be lawyers coming out from behind every tree in the world. If M/S offers MSE and you choose to install it, no lawyers. MSE (free) has improved so much it is a challenge to other software makers that want to sell there antivirus program. I'm surprised that there isn't legal action against M/S for having a built in firewall and defragger.
