BSOD, During all but Idle (Web browsing, File system work)

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? No, but I installed clean.
- an OEM or full retail version? Retail of Pro
- What is the age of system (hardware)? Old 2 years of run time or more
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?)
The OS has been installed for only a few months. BSODs have been happening for about 1 week.

I don't use this box at home much. Just to watch Hulu and I had it blue screen while I was moving some photos around.

Hi pcfascist and welcome

This crash was caused by your classPNP.sys, which is a driver for external devices like scsi, etc. It usually crashes because it times out waiting for a response from a device.
What HD's and other external devices do you have?

You can run a system file check to verify and repair the OS files including classpnp.sys. To do that you need to open a cmd window by typing cmd in search. Then right click and run as administrator.
Finally type SFC /SCANNOW.

Let us know the results.

ClassPNP.sys can also crash if the BIOS needs updating. BIOS updating should be the last thing to try (which is why I am sure you didnt mention it) because it can cause other problems.

I would first run the SFC as Jan said, then if the problem persists.

You might also want to try to see if there is any mention of classpnp.sys problems in event viewer (type eventvwr ins search>windows logs>application tab (and system tab).

See if there are any critical errors (they have red in the left hand column) that mention classpnp, or anything related to the problem.

I ran the SFC which completed successfully.

I have the following drives:
ExcelStor Tech J8080S SATA (Sys, Boot, Active, etc.)
Maxtor 6L100M0 SATA (Page File)
Hitachi HDS72252525VLSA80 (was EXT3) I just umounted it from Windows 7 and formatted it to NTFS (to narrow down that it is not the cause.
