Was it just me or is IE faster than Firefox at the moment???

Firefox has had a few updates recently but now, as I write this post, I am using Internet Explorer 8 which feels faster than Firefox 3.6.8 at this point and I don't know why.

I am more of a Firefox user but, I just feel that IE 8 is doing smoother and faster on the browsing.

Those of you who have updated to Firefox 3.6.8, why don't you try comparing its speed to IE 8??? I do not remember doing any updates to IE 8 but it feels faster as it loads pages smoother and a few seconds faster that Firefox 3.6.8....


What do you think???

I could never tell the difference between any of them to be honest... I just use IE because it's "already there" and it usually starts up quicker than all the other browsers.

Opera is still faster for me, but generally, speed between the browsers changes with every new version and they are all faster now. We win when they fight to be #1.

Well that does not seem to be the case with IE 8 for me at the moment.

I tried the two browsers on a very same website and IE 8 just loaded them 2 seconds or so faster than Firefox 3.6.8.

So I wouldn't really say IE is and always will be the slowest browser. The makers of Firefox can make a mistake that can turn it slower.

Firefox has had multiple updates recently for an unknown reason besides trying to be more competitive and they will not always do it right.

To be honest, I've always read about browser X being faster than browser Y. But often with a stopwatch and some basic testing...I've never been able to prove it. I've tested IE, Firefox, Opera and Chrome and after a series of tests....they usually all finish at just about the exact same time for me. Therefore, I just use the one that I am most familiar and comfortable with.

Every browser is fast for me. I am on a 15Mbps (down) internet connection. I will say that IE8 is not stable. It crashed far too many times for me, most likely due to Flash or Javascript.

I don't think that's the case for me. Although, if I enable D2D acceleration, then Firefox 4 is seriously faster than Chrome. The only problem is that when you use it, the UI looks real pixelated. Also, the UI seems to slow down some. I'm going to wait until they get the kinks worked out before I enable it to use regularly.

The only thing that D2D acceleration does is move website page processing from the CPU to the GPU. It doesn't make websites load faster, at least not to the naked human eye. Unless you are on a slow CPU then offloading it to the GPU is moot.

The benchmarks I have seen are measured in milliseconds. There is no way for a human being to tell the difference in 4-5 millisecond improvement.

I was a long time Firefox user, but since I got my new PC with Win7, I've been using IE, and find it fast and easier to use compared to Firefox. IE is the only browser installed on my computer anymore (minimalist here).

I've used Opera as my main browser for so long, that I barely use FF or IE at all.
I gave up on FF as it got slower and full of more crap. I still have it, it's my 2nd browser, but I don't see it as really being any faster than IE now.

There's just too much involved and built in to all the browsers now for there to be any significant speed difference. If it's a few seconds or more difference, then yes, I can understand that, but it seems that everything is always measured in milliseconds, and that is just nitpicking,IMO.

That can't really be a true test of any speed though. All 3 of the browsers I used for it were slow with converting it. It didn't matter which, it was a slow process all 3 times. I just wasn't going to try to time it down to split-seconds and stuff....that's pointless.

Not that I would ever have been on anything like that in the first place, but still...

Everyone will hate browser X and prefer Y. There's always going to be the argument. Until there is one perfect browser, capable of doing everything lightning fast, this will never end. (which, it never will anyway)

Im using FF 3.6.8 at the moment, I distrust IE after that whole hacking thing.
I also have Google chrome installed as a backup browser. In my experience, ive always found chrome to launch faster and to load webpages slightly faster. But again, usage is tracked by google, so i only use it if i have to.
