How to Disable Extended Desktop Mode on Startup

Currently, I have a USB to VGA adapter going from my computer to the TV. The problem I have though, is that everytime I start my computer up, it automatically starts in extended desk top mode, meaning I can't use the snap feature without having to go into control panel everytime to adjust the setting so the display only shows on monitor 1. It never stays put though when I restart my computer.

How do I go about disabling the extended display mode everytime my computer starts?

Right click the desktop and click Screen Resolution. You should have an option to set it to only display on monitor 1. Are we talking about a desktop or a laptop? I was gonna say something, but depending on what you have, I might not say it.

It's a desktop. No matter how many times I change the setting so it only shows on screen 1, it goes back to extended mode when my computer is restarted.

Okay. My recommendation to just unplug the adapter was on the assumption you were using a computer that you could easily get to the USB ports on. In all my years of using two screens (about 7 years), I've never came across a way to make windows not automatically extend the displays, but I wasn't exactly looking for one either. Unless someone else comes along I'd say try the search function or use google/yahoo/bing to try to find something, but it might be difficult. You could buy a USB extension cable or splitter, which can give you easier access to the adapter, so you can unplug it if you need to. Plus a splitter would give you a few extra USB ports.

It must be because its USB. I'm running dual monitors and often switch to single when playing games, and then back to extended when I'm finished. As a test I switched to single and rebooted to see what would happen. It stayed at single, I had to select extended again manually to go back to dual displays. Also I have no problem using the snap feature with single or dual monitors, what problems are you having with snap?

I made a shortcut to switch to a single "Computer only" monitor. I have it on my desktop but if you put it in your startup folder it would run every time windows boots up. The target for the shortcut is
C:\Windows\System32\DisplaySwitch.exe /internal
So create a short cut to the file "DisplaySwitch.exe" and then open it's properties and add the /internal to the end.
For extended it's C:\Windows\System32\DisplaySwitch.exe /extend
In your case its more of a work around than an actual fix. In my case its just easier that hitting windows key + P and selecting Computer Only every time I play a game. I just pin the shortcuts to my task bar and it's one click to switch back and forth.
