hmm, is there any known reason why windows continues to restart even after I disable restart on system failure?

I checked event viewer and theres over 100 critical causes of the system shutting down

a few of them display these in details:

Most likely this is an overheating situation. Itunes, RealPlayer, Windows Media player, etc. require a lot of processing power to decompress and decode music files, which can cause the system to get hot.
If your CPU is running at over 60 degrees you might be at risk of burning it out. Some systems shut down automatically when the temperature reaches an unsafe level. If you determine that overheating is not the problem, the most likely suspect is bad memory

Hmm, my PC seems to be rebooting when it's under heavy load, but temperature wise it isn't overheating

System Temp varies from 30-40

CPU temp about 45

The stress test I tried before, and even when my PC was at 100% it didn't reboot :S

I will try it again in the morning!

I'll run it throughout the day tomorrow then

On a side note, my PC just went crazy, it just flashed then switched from windows aero theme to basic, and then started making high pitched noises, similar noises as to when I'm on a game (graphics card noise)

I tried changing the settings back to windows aero, but it stayed on basic and pc usage went up to 98% :S

Then it flashed and went back to normal? :S

Each time I uninstall them both come back :S could they be conflicting?

Jason do you both a sound chip and a sound card? If so, disable the sound chip rater than uninstall it.

Ok, I ran Prime95 for a while, and it stopped after 11 minutes and there were no errors detected on any of the cores

I then tried the signature checker, and while running it I got a blue screen, I'll try running it again

I've just read through he entire thread, as mentioned it appears to be a hardware issue.

Prime95 should not just stop on it's own.

You also said you had the computer built, was this at a local shop?

When you loaded the new BIOS, what where the settings?
What BIOS version do you have now?

Is the FSB still at 1600?

Tell us what the BIOS CPU and RAM settings are.

Then set BIOS to defaults, then let us know what the FSB is set at, Vcor or CPU voltage, multiplier, RAM voltage and timings, etc.

Did you set Speedfan to record the voltages as Stormy suggested?

Re-seat you RAM, graphics card, HDD connections, and all PSU connections.
Double check the MOBO power connections, look all around the MOBO for possible grounding points.

This might be caused by a bent pin on the processor, but let's check all of the BIOS settings first.

Hey, Prime95 stopping and said PCU check was finished or something
It was built near me but not at a local shop
BIOS settings where all at default, and I haven't changed them, I have the most recent BIOS version at the moment, not sure what the number is but I can find out if needed
I think when I wrote FSB, I think it meant the motherboard could go up to FSB 1600, I'm not sure if the CPU is at 1600
The CPU and RAM settings are all on Auto
I haven't recorded voltages since speedfan started to crash randomly, so I uninstalled it
I've reseated everything
I'll get back with the BIOS soon

Before I do though

I am going to ring up the manufacturer tomorrow, what excately should I ask him about this FSB thing, and is there anything else I should ask? I already returned the PC once and he said it showed some instability when running at higher resolutions so they upgraded the PSU

But yeah, what excately do you want me to find out from the BIOS, and what should I ask them tomorrow?

Prime95 should run until you stop it, unless you set it differently, run it again on standard settings, for at least an hour.

Check you MOBO manual, you can D/L it from the ASUS website, look at the BIOS section, check the default settings against your actual settings.
Look for any overclocking settings, for the CPU, GPU and RAM.

Sometimes these won't run correctly at even default settings, if the RAM is borderline under or over volted you can get intermittent error/BSoDs.
If the MOBO default voltage is 1.6v and the RAM requires 1.5v or 1.65v this could be the culprit.
Check if the RAM you have is listed on the MOBO compatible RAM list.

Ask your shop to run the tests they recommend and to check the CPU for bent pins.
A bent CPU pin can cause these kind of problems.

There's always the possibility of a bad MOBO.

I'm not sure, it said tests finished or something, anyway, running it again now so will let you guys know

Regarding the RAM settings, the BIOS on auto shows the volts at 1.8V on minimum, my RAM says 1.9V on the sticker, the BIOS are on Auto

But after lunch I'm going to call up the support and see what they say

Hmm, I just got a blue screen, it didn't leave details, but when I rebooted my PC, it got stuck at Starting Windows for around 15 mins

So I reset it, and it went into system recovery thing and said Windows was unable to start

It's fine at the moment, but I'm not sure why it did that

What is the brand and part number of your RAM?

Found it:

The sticks are Corsair branded, DDR2, 800mhz

It was a twin pack, 2x2GB modules and both sticks say XMS2 on them, not sure what that means

The serial is TWIN2X4096 - 6400C5 G

I'll do some checking.
